Will the Civil War ever end, how long will stability last, will Somalis stop country hoping as refugees and finally work on our own lands?

why are Somalis so focused on division, when we have been in at war for 35 years

great-grandfather - AN at 106 passed away in the diaspora because of the civil war
grandfather - 90 now, is in the diaspora because of the civil war
parents - in the diaspora because of the civil war
me - in the diaspora because of the civil war

how many generations will experience war, before we come to the 21st century?

What is there in Somalia for me to return to? Corruption, tribalism, backwardness, people who hate each other, poverty rate of 70%, let me die in peace in West.

Very disappointing remarks from someone who brand himself as 'Nabaddoonka Somaaliyeed'

I lost hope my friend

War no one is going to build our wadan for us. You expect some other diasporan or a shisheeye to fix Somalia for you and say "Haye, come back now."? Nothing worthwhile is easy, walaal. Come, struggle, fight, argue, fail, go back to the drawing board and be a frontiersman in your own land. Place needs all the educated maskaxs it can get.

Lol @ moving back.

Somalis love to talk about their dreams and aspirations and goals but they barely ever come into fruition. They don't put in the work and they just like to say whatever gets them very brief validation. Wey hadal badan yihiin. Full of faan. I have learned to stop taking them seriously about 10 years ago. Even the over 60s don't go back except some that go for 3 month vacations in the winter.

Me waiting for Somalis like my uncle who constantly complains about the baraf and dahan to move back to Somalia after lying for 35+ years and most even never going for a visit.

honestly its sad. the worst thing is i dont see any improvement anytime soon. i feel sorry for the youth in somalia who are suffering because of previous generations. i believe that growing up in anarchy for 30 years itself traumatized a whole generation.

It's a serious discussion that needs to be had. It goes beyond the civil war and across all regions of Somali lands. Firstly, khat use needs to be totally banned as the first step if they're serious about even acknowledging that there is an issue.

The gen that left Somalia may return as retirees but their children have completely and utterly assimilated in the West. They’ll never go to Somalia because it isn’t their home.

I’ll have to disagree with the latter. It’s more to do with the connection you got with Somalia rather than simply being born abroad and assimilated there.

Parents who made efforts for their kids to visit back home during their childhood will most likely have kids with more ties to Somalia than those who haven’t been there. Especially if they forged relationship with their relatives.

Somali kids who were raised with and speak Somali very well tend to have a better sense of belonging to their homeland, than those didn’t and have limited understanding today.

Kids who were brought up in households where the importance of Somali identify (culture, history etc.) was empathized will have a deeper ties than those who haven’t. And so forth. You’ll even notice this pattern here on SSpot as well.

With that said and despite that, not many will settle back home. But these Somalis usually spend more time back home.
