With Somalis it really doesn’t. I know successful younger brothers and older gang bangers. I’ve seen families in which only one brother is a mess and everyone is normal and usually it’s the older one.

The reason for this is obvious. Parents in the late 80s, 90s and early 2000s were rather clueless when it came to the UK system. They lived in rougher areas and had to deal with a whole host of issues that you youngsters are in a better position. I literally know younger sons making bank making the parents proud whilst the older son did a stint in jai.

Hence forget the difference between brothers and sisters, I’m telling you the differences between brothers. Therefore there is no pout making it into a gender war.

With Somalis, there isn’t much of a correlations when it comes to families. In many cases it’s the age and when the son were born unfortunately.

It’s Hollywood and the lack of model representation we have in the west.

Even some Somali men are defensive when you ask them to take care of themselves; they believe it’s feminine and not ideal to their masculinity.

Lack of Father figures….

Not saying most Somali abo aren’t with them -I just believe some fathers aren’t with their kids enough to teach them the value of self care.

Their mothers over influence them with their affections and over-feeding; not giving them enough chores or obstacles to get them on the right track.
