In light of the new controversy regarding Somalis wanting to marry moroccans (berbers), I decided it is a good time to educate you all on the dangers of race mixing with Ajam. Bismillah
Now as you all know, marrying someone of another race is halal in Islam, however, there are many scholars who recommend abstaining from it, I will list a few examples.
Imam Al Bukhari said:
"Marriage with a person of the same ethnicity is preferable because it avoids conflicts and cultural differences.
(Al-Adab al-Mufrad)
Imam al-Qurtubi said:
"Marriage with a person of the same ethnicity is preferable because it preserves the culture, language and customs of the family
(Al-Jami' li Ahkam al-Qur'an]
Imam al-Shafli:
"It is preferable for a man to marry a woman from his own country or tribe, as this reduces the chances of conflict."
(Al-Umm, 5/26]
Now you may argue, “but Al Adnani this is the opinion of few scholars, what about the sahaba?” Well thankfully I have compiled some quotes from the sahaba in these regards.
The Sahabi Salman Al Farisi (may allahsaid:
"O Arab people! Let no one precede you in imama (leading the prayer) and let no one marry your wives except you!
(Iqtiva Sirat Mustaqeem 1/394)
it is reported Ibn Taymiyya checked the isnad in the mushaf of Al Bazar and then said "This is a good isnad!"
Umar Ibn Al Khattab said :
"I would never allow a noble woman to marry a person of a lower social class than her own!"
(Daraquini 3/298]
In regards to this, we have 2 main scholarly interpretations;
For Ash-Shafii, this notion of equivalence of spouse encompasses six things: religiosity, filiation {THE ORIGINS), freedom, social class, absence of physical handicap.
(Tuhfat Muhtaj 7/278-281]
Imam Ahmed, for his part, believes that this reciprocity must be present in five dimensions: filiation [ORIGINS), religiosity, freedom, social class and financial capacity.
(Muntahi al Ardat)
To conclude, Somalis and Moroccans are 2 different creeds. Historically Arabs and berbers mixing has usually led to conflict, if Somalis want to mix we should do so with the 20 other Arab countries whom share culture and customs with us, not a Berber state like Morocco who we share nothing with.
