100% is the lingering Salafi influence. I say influence because people aren’t as Salafi as a decade ago but I literally grew up with Somalis of all different qabils and hardly anyone celebrated independence. I went to a Somali madrassa and an Islamic Somali circle in my early 20s and we were told that celebrating independence is haram and that extreme nationalism is sin. No lie. Now we see landers going hard with May 18 and that wasn’t even a thing growing up despite being around a lot of landers and July 1st was hardly even celebrated. In fact for years it was kinda ignored.I hate even bringing this up since i dont like how people critcize them. But Is it possibly the salafi influence? I've been seeing a lot of rearted arguments online saying we shouldn't Celebrate independence day we have eid and that its bidah
Why is salafism stronger in the uk compared to North America I couldn’t imagine hearing independence is haram growing up would’ve been weird ngl100% is the lingering Salafi influence. U.k somalis are heavily influenced by ajnabi Muslims since they are a minority within a minority. Whereas in Minnesota somalis are the dominant Muslim group. Why is salafism stronger in the uk compared to North America I couldn’t imagine hearing independence is haram growing up would’ve been weird ngl
