Why many Somalis leave Islam

Unfortunately, I include myself in this too. I am a Muslim but not a practising one (may Allah help me).

What's this trend over the last few years? I've even seen some people convert to Christianity.

This phenomenon mainly affects people from the diaspora and I think it will intensify even more with the new generations. I'm from generation Z personally.

On twitter alone this year, I've easily seen 10 Somalis who have apostasised and on tiktok, there are even live where there is a gathering of ex-Muslims.

this is my opinion but it's just not a somali problem. I think people leave islam because they don't know the full islamic tradition. The person gets introduced to 1 creed (in my case the salafi one), and when they have questions, they look for answers in that creed. If they don't find their answers, then they leave. The mistake they make is that they forget there are many other schools of thought/creeds. Let me just give a quick example of something that absolutely blew my mind when i found out.

So, i asked myself what proofs prophet muhamad(SAW) had for being a prophet. at first I found, you know, the normal answers. things like the moon splitting and other miracles. I then researched more and i found opinions that said: "a human being can tell if someone is a genuine prophet not because the prophet performs miracles but by some other method". Now, i never expected to hear a muslim say this.

So, imho, know your tradition.

really? ive never heard someone use the miracles argument tbh, the proof for prophethood is many, there are books on it, in arabic though.
for me the easiest proof, is that it is just common sense, everything said and done about Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasalam, everything he did and achieved, everything he preached, the authenticity and stringent rules on how hadeeth are transmitted and the scope of intellectual discussions and variety of books about Islam, Its quite clear he was a Prophet, the fact he came with the Quran makes there be no doubt, since anyone who speaks arabic from 1400 years ago can attest that they cannot make anything like the Quran and it is a masterpiece in language that noone can reach,

There will always be a few people suffering from mental retardation. It doesn't mean it's a widespread phenomenon.
Not to mention they are diaspora. This is unheard of in the Somali community in the west and doesn't exist back home.

you were in a different sect then? idk. but from my experience, miracles where heavily used to proof prophecy. made me super uneasy.

Maybe because it’s already a taboo topic.

Somalia is known to be a non-secular country. So people are not gonna admit point-plant that they’ve left the deen.

This could put their life on series of controversy and family shaming.

Maybe but you could say that for any Muslim at any place at any point in time. Really, you could say it for any religion

Islam are probably the only groups of people who don’t tolerate apostasy into their communities.

Christians are mostly tolerant who ever leaves their faith some would be disappointed but they aren’t nowhere as intolerant as the Muslims.

Maybe modern Christianity but Christians were some of the most brutal. Many knight orders were created for the specific task of seeking out pagans to forcibly convert or kill.

Go to a Christian town in rural American or Europe and apostise and see how they treat you, they aren't gonna shrug it off like you make it seem.
Modern Christians are soft but they'd burn you alive and many Christians set out to kill and convert all the pagans in eastern and central Europe to fully convert the continent. Not to mention what they did to muslims in their conquest of Al andalus, Spain and Portugal.

For the last decade I've been listening to somalian murtadeen talk about this growing population that'll make somalis 20% atheist by 2020. Yet we don't see it

The men are pathetic khaniis or some type of black pill doomer and the women can't even offer good sex they suck at everything and end up becoming lesbian if they don't eventually revert back to Islam

Medieval Christians were cruel, yes.

But we’re not talking about some knight Templar christians that no longer exit into the mainstream world.

I’m strictly on about why Muslims get so defensive and offended on when people leave the faith
