Why hasn't a single clan ever dominated the rest?

For the past thousands of years, not a single Somali clan managed to dominate the rest. Even to this day, none has managed to tip the scales and establish hegemony over the rest of Somalia. Why?

Historically speaking, places like Arabia, India, Germany, Mongolia and Japan and more were politically fractured or very tribalistic until one group succeeded in uniting the rest either via warfare or political arrangements. Even in countries that never managed to establish a single national entity like Ireland still had clans that claimed the title of high king of Ireland. Even the Habesha used to be clannish until a dynasty united most of them.

Either there was an equilibrium in power and resources among all the clans that somehow lasted thousands of years or there was simply no interest to rule over all which is doubtful given how competitive the clans are.

Darood was going to have that by now but the borders dont allow for that. Ogadens/Daroods only just aquired Jubbaland / NFD when europeans arrived.

Its unlikely Somalia ever gets an established clan hierarchy now so get used to the FMS.

Because if a single can did dominate they would try to gumeysi the rest of the clans. Siyaad barre tried to do that when he was empowered Daaroods, but that didn't end well as other clans felt gumeysid.

What would they gain from that?

Also Somali clans were not united themselves historically, The Ugaas was just a symbolic figurehead without much power. He couldn’t get thousands of men to fight and die for him to war against another clan.

We noble issa already govern a country and rule over Afars and Arabs. With functional government and state. What has other qabil got to against us?

The Hobyo Sultanate did exactly that, the local clans were very upset and years later, ended up joining the Italians in a colonial army called 'Dubbats'. They preferred being colonised over having a Sultan from another clan.

The Sultan of the local clan was even given a little medal for his efforts.

Domination by numbers in a democracy, not militarily. Would you guys been successfull in invading other clans territory and forcefully establish hegemony? I doubt that.

Europeans arrived before any clan could accomplish this feat and conquered us instead. It probably would have happened in a few centuries without any/minimal foreign intervention.

With the advancments in weaponry. I mean the Dervish manufactured their own guns and bullets and built fortified cities. There probably would have been one of the kingdoms that conquered all the others soon.

I want to hear your theory on why can’t somali
”elites” work together and rule the country. The clan elites certainly could have shared the pie and be rich by skimming of the top.
