Why ELITISM can save somalis in the diaspora

Somalis in the diaspora have a dark future and this is evident in already one generation since they came in the diaspora in mass numbers.

The youth between 10-25 can hardly speak their language or know their culture for different reasons, but they also drifting away from their religion ( me included) if they have not already done and this will only increase.

The ratchet/ghetto culture/behavior is the downfall of any society, and Somalis are not an exception.

So the solution lies in Elitism where education will be highly valued as that will increase the intellectual level and income, which in return makes those with ghetto behavior and low income being looked down on and shunned from the elitist Somali community.

So this will force the rest to accept the reality and change or cut off from the rest, within 2 generation we could be on the same bar as the Japanese.

Every successful Somali is in their own little world, not knowing the worth of their relative success.

In order for there to be a 'keeping up with the Abdis'' mentality, we need cultivate an elitist mindset. Somali people have a tendency of emulating each other, this competitive nature is very important. We need promote this elitist culture, in the hope it can encourage people.

I agree we need to model ourselves on secrecy and seclusion like the Jews and pakistanis etc..etc..

The newer generations of somalis might no have a strong connection to their homeland as their parent, due to their upbringing. So I don't think people from the diaspora would return to Somalia. Especially the successful ones, since it won't benefit them to start something up in a place with no network. Plus, the patriotism can't be considered a pulling fact for that group.

This is actually one of the goals i want somalia to achieve. If anything, the civil war has re-ingineered our society, we have more poor people than than a middle class and the rich are verry few. This is becouse of the corruption the civil war has brought. But despite economic ineaquality, somali society seems selectively egalatarian - people are more helpful towards their own qabiil. Qabiil has still big role in ones status in our society.

Contrary to popular bleif, the elites are almost inseparable from the peasants becouse of our culture. For instance if someone is financially capable he is expected to feed the whole clan and only his clan. This has somewhat restricted natural capabality of wealth: create more wealth.

The solution to this somehow relies on cultural ingineering. For instance we could start making the able man who is educated and financialy well of a hero thus making people to aim at the goals acheived by what society considers a 'hero'. The second aspect of this cultural change is introducing 18 century liberalism - indivualism and emphesising on hard work.

Somalia isn't immune to eccepting foreign ideologies as proved by the kacaan's marxism and this will truimph better becouse it promotes success and that is only achieved by thinking for yourself and family ( not some mythical lineages ) and working not only hard but smart.

The ones top of the socio-economic ladder will have much better time focusing on investing than baying shaxaad money to some clansman.

We hope the useless Somalis stay where they are and never return to Somalia. It is better for every body that way. We wish well in their new found loss and their parents are to blame since they will be held accountable for the outcome in what they could change or help with but didn't. Only the seriously Somali will go back to Somalia anyway, so the future isn't that bleak.

As for Somalis back home, they are a tough bunch who already view foreign born Somalis to be useless. They should keep that attitude up and look at outsiders who can't speak Somali with suspicion as they do.

Somalia saved that way.

Yea I wasn't really interested in ever going to visit my parents homeland for many years. But now I am kind of interested in the place. I can't see myself moving their though. I have grown up here in the west and lived here my entire life

There's nothing secretive about the success of any successful diaspora community be they Japanese or Jews, hell even Vietnamese refugees caught up with the success model train.

The success and overachieving of Geeljires is to simply coping the Asian model.

Asians employ a cut throat competition and envy each other's success, however they pool their resources together and establish parallel after schools for STEM and more from elementary to high school which translates in to ivy league domination.

Geeljires pool their resources together across qabil and class for Dugsi and compensate teachers handsomelywhich is great but if they could organize STEM classess at the Dugsi, we would be the new Japs or Joos on the block in decade. Mark my word Waryaa

The most educated Somalis tend to run away from Somali Culture and Religion. Worst they become atheist. So your solution is null and void.

I suggest what someone already suggested up there. In early teenage take your kids to Somalia for daqaan eliis......otherwise u will have qasaaro business

If your highly educated and living well in a western country. moving to Somalia sound kind of bad. Your standard of living would be different. Especially if you have a family.

I know of a doctor(read about him online) who had went to Somalia later on his career to work there.

Also a Somali midwife who went back after about 20-30 years in the wes. She owns a hospital now and works with pregnancies.

I'm thinking this is what a majority of people plan on doing. Staying in the west once they start their careers. Raising a family in the west(so kids can have a good education) and then eventually moving back to Somalia to help later in their careers

But there are a lot of people who aren't interested in going to Somalia at all. Especially the ones born in the west. their lives and what they consider homeland is in the west. Not in Somalia.

This is ideal way of helping Somalia. Take back expertise and help society whilst you can make some money to pay for expenses.

Personally, this is my plan. Once I head home, there is no return. As for Somalis who were born in the west and have little attachment to the culture, they should stay where they belong and feel comfortable.

You can have a good life in Somalia now if you have money. Everything is available that makes life easy. If you can afford to buy the luxury. Internet service, phone service, electricity, cars of all kinds, maids to work for you, basically anything you want. It is boom time.

I'd argue the exact opposite of it. Humility is seriously lacking with the Geeljire. Many adeers would rather be on the dole than work. That's the fundamental problem. We care too much about ''faaniimo'' and seeing the statistics it hasn't helped us one bit. You're unwittingly proposing something, which in practice, has utterly failed.

You are wrong. Only the ill-educated and ignorant of their culture and religion leave both behind. I never met respectable Somali atheist you can trust with a dime in real life. Only two individuals online, one female and one male who struggled with personal demons but were otherwise alright folks.

Best Somali is the Geeljire who values his culture and religion. Anything less is lacking something meaningful.
