Why do

Why do people base their principles/beliefs off of other people and their actions?

If you believe something is right how can others and their carelessness change that? Can't it be said that these types of people never really believed in what they proclaim to have believed?

This is something that has bothered me with some Muslims and I've mainly seen it online and now I've seen it here with Somalis giving up on Somalinimo. They get triggered by other people and decide to give up on it, citing other Muslims actions or terrorist groups as a reason. Same thing with Somalinimo on here.

You'll come across all kinds of people in life and the worst of them on the internet if you let them change you or drag you down whenever you encounter them it's scary to imagine what will become of you throughout the years.

Figure out what you as an individual believe in be it Islam, Somalinimo or w.e else and stick to it, stand for it, if you grow and change let it be because of something worthy not the inevitably crazy people you encounter.

I've made this a thread to just get it out as it's something that bothers me.

They never had any principles from the beginning and now are looking for excuses.

I don't think it's that they never believed in it in the first place but rather that they had a wrong/weak foundation.
If an individual accepts a belief or idea without truly delving into it and understanding it, then it makes sense that they'll just as easily be swayed the other way.

When it comes to religious concerns, the above statements are especially true. Some people leave or switch religions due to their own negative experience; they turn their subjective personal truth into a representative for an objective truth. It's one thing if they arrived to their conclusion via research and deep thought but sadly, quite a few people allow their emotion to supersede their common sense.

It's illogical but also understandable. As human beings, we are gifted with the capacity to be rational (something that separates us from other animals) but not all of us choose to make use of it. :zhqjlmx: It's frustrating, but that's life.

TL;DR
Lack of conviction comes from:
Lack of In-depth understanding
[in regards to the idea/topic at hand] (individual may be ignorant or only have surface level knowledge of w/e it is).
Lack of Solid/rational foundation [in regards to the idea/topic at hand] (individual may have adopted their belief due to the wrong reasons i.e parents told them it was the right thing and to just obey; no proper explanation provided).
Lack of Self-reflection [in regards to the idea/topic at hand] (individual fails to question themselves, "why do I believe this?", fails to routinely assess and challenge the beliefs/thoughts that they hold, etc).

Bring it I'll f*ck you up
with your 95 pound self?

There's no somalinimo without islamnimo if a Somali abandons Islam then other Somalis don't even consider him/her a Somali cause they will refer to them as gaal.

What's this irrational hate for gaals? The same blood that runs through their veins runs through yours. They love their country just as much and would do everything and anything for the prosperity and happiness of Somalis. They don't seek to harm you, why do you wish to harm them?

Ever heard of the saying "Live and let Live"?

You believe the earth is flat. I don't know why people waste their time with you.
