Come on, Al-Shabaab is recent and that's because when we were invaded all the good Muslims who were in government fled, leaving a power vacuum for extremists. This was after the Civil War, which was caused by Somalis' ignorance and unwillingness to settle their differences. And the looting of the artifacts was also during the war. Somalis are just mooryaans, that's the problem. A country can be religious and still be stable, most Western ones were up until the early/mid 20th century.

Well maybe it was a misunderstanding because the the reddit post blamed islam for Somalia's downfall which is not true. As people were muslim prior to the civil war and it didn't cause a problem. We all know it was qabil issues first then islamic extremist came in to fill the power vaccum. I completely disagree with what @Hamzza said. Also to act like Somalia is not filled with degeneracy is stupid as we have people sitting on the edges of streets eating and buying drugs(khat) in the open and cases of “islamic leaders” groping children behind doors is common. So Somalia is not an innocent pious place people like to picture it. If it was there wouldn't be grown men killing each other over clans.
