Somaliland brand themselves as a successor to the Siyaad Barre government.

With hindsight this would’ve set them for success long term (IC $$$). :cosbyhmm:

Not enough IQ points and too emotional. The damage they could have caused if they larped as the true Somalia government post 91 could have been immense… but instead the high IQ Puntites established a federal government for Somalia in 2004.

USC's aideed and snms tuur had came to agreement of 50-50 power share of north and south somalia after ousting siyaad Barre until Ali mahdi declared himself as president thus starting the civil war amongst usc. Also the fact that egal manuvered his way in kicking out tuur leaving him stranded in xamar and then declaring independence from the rest of somalia.

Imo if agreement was fulfilled then Somaliland wouldn't have existed and tuur would've been new president of somalia

It has to be one of the biggest fumbles in the civil war. 30+ years of qar iska tuur and meaningless independence movement and now they will be lucky if they keep SSC as a federal state.

I doubt they seriously want to get independence. They were just making a big deal of it and were waiting for the Somalia to get back up again

It was a different climate. The Soviet Union dissolved and dozens of states were becoming independent countries. I don't know how they were seeking recognition in those days, maybe someone from there can shed light on it.
