why can't Somalis figure out running water?

like I'm no civil engineer, but if it rains twice a year and doesn't rain the rest of the year.......maybe just maybe, have a bucket.

does anyone have knowledge on why we have a beggars economy and no investments in public works/infrastructure? like who is the minister, i want to send a strongly worded letter :yloezpe:

rainwater can't cover anywhere near a fraction of water demand. you need dams, reservoirs and probably need to tap aquifers

when i see droughts followed by massive floods, i have a hard time feeling sympathy. tbh, the internet exists, a shoval is all you need.

I was intentionally over-generalizing, if we do not have the technology or resources, i would empty all those refugee camps and put everyone to work, and once the task is complete, give that cultivated land back to the people who sweated over it.

for Somalia's population and land mass, we can definitely use what we have to sustain ourselves.

trust me from experience, this a great way to end up a pariah state

"If the Dutch lived in Ireland, they would feed the world. If the Irish lived in the Netherlands, they would drown" - Based Otto von Bismarck.

Switch the Irish with Somalis, and you get the same results. The fact that some of you actually think these small regional clan enclaves can implement a multi-billion water masterplan is just comical. Somalia has two standing rivers that are larger than Europe’s two biggest rivers, there shouldn’t be a shortage of water at any point of the year.

Short term; it’s really embarrassing that 19th century Americans could come up with a simple affordable system that revolutionised ranching and farming plus opened up the entire arid spaces of their country during their westward expansion across the North American continent, but 21st century Somalis are still in this cycle when updated versions of the water windmill pump are available and Somalia has large deposits of underground water to justify them.

Long term; the Government has to take out major loans and implement a sound water masterplan consisting of hydro dams, irrigation zones, water storage facilities, barrages, desalination plants, etc.

We are poor those projects cost billions if its a must to get them we have to go into debt.

Not really bro, the country has many strategic assets, from ports, to agricultural lands, to livestock, to minerals, to voting power, to location, etc. Malaysia used all of their assets to their advantage, same with Morocco, why can’t we?

5 million. No one knows where that money went :mjcry:
It's corruption. Politicians share aid money before it even arrives

the only reason these projects cost billions is because of the man hours associated with them, we have 100,000s of refugees in camps not doing anything, i think training them and using that "free" labor and giving them land to cultivate will not only end the refugee crisis in somalia but also give 100,000s of somalis skills they can use to create economic output.

if you look on linkedin, everyone that can teach basic engineering skills is not going to waste their time in somalia because of safety concerns, so the only poeple left are nepo-babies or unskilled nepo-babies.

That is what i am saying, in a way, Somalia has more value then Malaysia and morocco without fertilizer. it's frustrating to see the level of incompetency that exists.

Instead of stealing and paying off old men to sit down and eat khat all day.

Keep in mind Somali has a sizeable amount of water underground, I have more trust with regional clan elders then the government, if you get local people involved that actually benefit from what you're building, you can cut cost and increase efficiency since they benefit.

Someone posted this recently, Dr Nakamura work in Afganistan.

The fact that Somalis in medieval Ajuuran was able to make advancements in Hydrolic technology but modern "Landheers" can't do nothing but place a bucket and hope for the best is actually sad. Somalis have seen to degraded in all fields in the last 30 years.

A dark age like the fall of adal.

We had a great brain drain in the previous 30ish years, all my close family still have back home but all my uncles who had degrees before the collapse of Somalia never returned, after a sizeable chunk of my father's assets were seized in Berbera port, he gave up on any hope in the whole region.

Now it's up to us in the West to eventually bring our expertise back home in the next 5-15 years, the majority of young Somalis I know have degrees mostly in STEM fields.

someone told me on here, you have to pay clan elders for "protection" even if you are 1000x more skilled for a position to actually help somalia, and some idiot with no education can still kill you for that position or job you applied for...its a major risk for anyone going and i hope the best for that person.

I got that kinda treatment when I took out a drone to do some recordings, got asked a bunch of question with a guy with rusty old AK, eventually found out I had some sort of connections and lift.

I only recommend you do work in your own clan region for safety, these people are so backwards it amazes me how anyone can get anything done.

The Ajuuraan sultanate was the only Hydraulic civilisation on the continent besides Ancient Egypt. The fact that even they could effectively manage their water supply is so embarrassing.

How the f*ck were medieval Somalis more intelligent than 21st century ones?

In order to establish and construct our currency and utilise it for public works, we must seize control of our bank, nationalise it, and issue our own money free from debt and interest. We must liberate ourselves from the shackles of Judeo-Western banks and global high finance. Jewish bankers are exploiting workers and depreciating currencies across Africa.

How do you Idiots think Nazi Germany became first nation in Human history to wipe out unemployment with public works? Their crime was printing their own currency and abolishment of Usury.
