Actually the african flags that look same just copied the ethiopian colours after their independace, but the arab and middle east i know for sure was made by the british.

The Somali flag was devised with a simple yet profound symbolism. The blue color signifies the country's extensive coastline, highlighting the historical significance of Somalis as seafaring people. The star, on the other hand, represents the aspiration bestowed upon Somalis by Fascist Italy, aiming to unite the five regions and establish Greater Somalia, Hence Siad barre tried to accomplish it since Mussolini was overthrown and Fascism defeated in ww2.

I can actually recognize not only their flags but also their capitals and currencies same goes for every country. I thank my adeer for bringing me a huge map when I was young that contained every country's flag, name, capital, and currency, and I've learned it.
