Who are your favourite novelists of all time?

Mine is franz Kafka. His short stories and writing are just phenomenal. He has this perfect way of fusing the reality and the fantastic, birthing that sweet absurdism. He has influenced many avant garde themed novelists. His writing resonated with me as an individual.
Another Great novelist is Haruki Murakami. His work similarly deals with dystopian contexts. His writings are always in first person and are written in such a way where moral relativism can be easily visualised. My favourite books from him must be iq84 and the Wind Up Bird Chronicle.

Haruki Murakami. Still remember that last part in 1Q84 when that detective, not gonna spoil, but u know. The part leading up to that, how he wrote it. Just stuck in my mind.

So many parts in that book that i still think about.

I like Khaled Hossein's books aswell. Especially A Thousand Splendid Suns. One of the most moving books i've ever read.

And Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, all her books, best one Purple Hibiscus.

I love Kafka. I'm not a big reader but his shit is effortless, just so perfect.

Murakami is great too but he's weird af, like super weird, like if you read his stuff, I warned you. :tacky:

. He's a very poetically masterful novelist with slightly fantastical but completely realistic stories. Also a Noble Prize winner.

kkkk i loved that little short story about the small frog and big frog. :mjlol:. Ive read some Saramago before. He's A1.

Metamorphosis is one of my favourite stories.

I like Gabriel Garcia Marquez. My favourite is Chronicle of a death foretold. It's about an Arab Latino philanderer who meets a gruesome death after taking the wrong woman's virginity.

I think he means that he's his own favourite author.

Believe it or not, but one of my professors wrote in his feedback for my thesis that I have 'an elegant writing style'.

That's great. You're on track. Are you going to do a PhD?

With academic writing I faked it til I made it. Writing books for the general public is totally different. It's all about how simple you make complex things sound. Academic writing is for a much smaller audience I feel. I wish I still had a Jstor account, I spent many an evening reading random essays.

Albert Camus, the stranger is in my top 5.
Paulo Coelho I know he's abit overrated and a lot of people complain about his style of writing but I love it, he's slowly become one of my favorite author in the last couple of years. Khaled Hossein, Leo Tolstoy, Christopher Hitchens are just some of my favorites...

I recently picked up Freedom by Jonathan Franzen, anyone read this? I'm looking forward to reading it this weekend.

No, not interested at the moment. In my line of work we do a lot of scientific research and work with academics. I prefer doing policy implementation and policy analysis for institutions over doing it in academia settings.

But writing is really important, students usually overlook its importance.

Do you work for a think tank?

There was guy in my uni who always got C's because his content/research was great but his writing was stuck at A level.
