When will we adopt the wadaad script?

When?

  • Never

  • When we are at peace and united

I think it is good if we adopt it. It has a few problems but it is better than the Latin script.

And before the bootyclapping nonsense starts, the Iranians use there's and they hate the Arabs the most.

It is a great way to increase our ties with the Arab world. Besides we can use this for writing on our coat of arms instead of Latin.

It is a beautiful script and we can reconnect with our medieval Somali heritage.

Latin alphabet is simple and international. Why over-complicate things and have unnecessary future costs (special keyboards and so on).

Good points. We should carry on teaching English, but this is to maintain the heritage of our language.

It wouldn't take that much, the script only has a few extra symbols, it's already a Unicode so it won't be that expensive.

False equivalence. A writing system does not equal the language.

Are you some kind of highly visual person or something? Who cares about the way it is written as long as the language is kept.

Why should we use foreign scripts when we have our own? I recommend the Borama script.

Possibly, when Somalia develops even further and we are in perpetual peace but it would be more convenient to keep our current Latin script.

The Latin script is foreign to us, the gadabuursi script as @Araman recommended has the same issues as the osmanya script. They were created by different clans and are not meant to be for everyone. The wadaad is the oldest form of Somali writing we know of, I think it's best to use that one since it is for all.

Why are you guys so Conservative when it comes to Somali culture? Clearly the country needs massive reforms and radicalism, you can't always stick to past just because.

Why keep the language if you won't keep the scripts? They belong together. There would be no reason to preserve Somali if you would simply throw out the scripts. They are both part of heritage. Your type of thinking would lead us to throw out our language as well as the script and bow down to globalism for convenience. I don't want Somalia to become a cucked country like Gabon that's lost numerous languages due to colonialism and globalism.

If we're bringing up problems, Arabic scripts don't have the letter G which is heavily present in our language. It's not that hard to edit our own scripts.

We are but a small nation, our language could die out.

If you looked at the wiki page it shows that غ is used, Somalis don't use that, closest to the Arabic GH is Somali Q. Therefore غ is our G

Af-Somali is one of the few African languages heavily supported by a recognized nation-state. That makes it practically impossible for it to die out.

All those other African languages though.. stuff like Fulani has no state backing. Those are at far greater risk, not Somali.
