somalis lose independence from 1885-1920
united nations makes italy give up colonies
italian somaliland is a united nations trust/mandate territory
half independence in 1960 (the other half occupied)
1992/3 united nations takes away our half independence

when do you think somalia will become independent again? serious question.

Until it sorts out Al-Shabaab, Federalism and Somaliland in that order.

Somalia is not a fully sovereign country until it has the only military within its internationally recognised borders.

That is easiest metric to judge a nation's full sovereignty.

I hope in this decade we will be free again InshAllah. The only way we can become free is by Somalis uniting and saying No to Xalane.

Somalia will never recover or be free until, amongst other things, they officially recognise the independence of their neighbour Somaliland. It's just the reality :hillarybiz:

Somaliland is the last of our issues lol. The status quo suits both parties. Y’all can develop on your own and we must sort our massive issues on our own too. Whether we recognise Somaliland as a country is such a minute issue. Another clan enclave isn’t a priority to us.

On the OP, the truth is we will never be independent in my lifetime. Somalis have always been a shortsighted people and will always backstab each other for their own personal wealth. When corruption is deep rooted in the population then it is no surprise it is prevalent in our politics. And sadly there’s no role model for us. The West is declining at a rapid rate and China will continue promoting terrible African leadership to rip us off our resources. It’s downfall from here. Just look at us selling our fishing rights to China for a whole 1 million dollars.

Not until we wake up, we're easily distracted whether it's through khat, small talk, social media/internet, etc.

There's a reason why "they" were the only ones willing to curtail/ban that poison, no one else will even dare to mention that.

The ajanabi doing the unpleasant fieldwork is getting physically bigger and stronger with each passing day.

The jahilnimo must end for us to stop being prisoners of war.

Nothing will change until 2031 and then a miracle will happen around that time but Somalia will fully recover at earliest 2052 - 2053 (at the current pace)

Hassan Kheyre will be elected (hopefully) if not HSM he will rule for 4 years and then another ruler will come and he will rule for 4 years and then another ruler and then 2031 (something will happen which will impact Somalia's destiny).

2030-2040 if I’m being optimistic. Maybe by that time somalis will finally move on from Qabiil based cabinets. :hemad:

When the nation is no longer dependent on Aid. This is difficult to achieve given most of the Thirld World is in this state but a period of economic stability and some bold decisions can propel the country much beyond its current level. A good example is Panama, from 1987 they took an executive decision to dispel all Aid agencies including governmental aid, they took back their resources like the Panama Canal and over 2 decades their poverty rate dropped from 50% to 11%.

Somalia's poverty level never reaches below 70%. Economy wise, Panama has a mixed economy with a lot of private freedom and some centralised economic planning and government regulation. Djibouti which has a smaller and manageable population is yet ranked more than 60 places lower on the economic freedom index.
