When did Shia Islam emerge ?

modern shia islam i think it started to proseltyze from azerbaijan.

i think it's as old as sunni islam. like before, there was no such thing as shia/sunni. they were all just normal muslims but some wanted Ali to be caliph and other's abubakr. then as time went on the differences became bigger and bigger.

There are many forms of shia islam, but the most practiced form of shiism, the ithna ashariyah/twelver shiism , which is also the state religion of Iran, emerged in the 9th century. It was a minority religion everywhere until the Safavid dynasty emerged from modern-day azerbaijan and conquered much of Iran and Iraq in the 16th century
