What's wrong with people moving back and forward?

So there's a small Somali community where I live. They often go back to the homeland with their children and come back after some years.
You don't even hear about them leaving, they just suddenly disappear. Then they come back after some years, looking like refugees who lived in a camp.
Trust me their children were struggling with school because they were gone half of middle school.
