What if Somaliweyn became a World Superpower?

Now I want to start off by saying switch on your thinking caps and recognize that this is strictly just a hypothetical so don't grill me in the comments for naivety.

What if Somalia in 2026 was struck with a Once in a Millennium Kind of Leader that managed to clear all of Modern Somalia's Flaws and managed to bring in and unite all Somali Ancestral Lands under Somaliweyn.

Now with Somaliweyn, the Somali Peninsula experiences Truly Remarkable Economic Rise Little to No Fluctuation and invests very heavily in Military such as Navy that demonstrates both a Naval and Economic Monopoly on the Red Sea and Bab el Mandeb and eventually the Major Checkpoints of the Indian Ocean.

Somaliweyn then develops a Military on Par with the United States, Infrastructure on par with China and a Navy that surpasses the United States and the World's Biggest Economy just slightly being above the United States.

How would you all feel if Somaliweyn managed to do all this regardless of how much you think they won't

*hits bong* Yo bro imagine if… * takes another puff* Somalia was like super power or something… *loud cough* like wouldn’t that be so cool bro*inhales more*

Its basically the nationalistic version of this.
Like what are we going to do with that info.

What if Somalis discovered magical spells. What would your reaction be.

This question does contain politics does it not?

Honestly even a stable somalia (with a 2,000/3000 gdp per capita) would be incredibly influential. Especially since we would have massive control over one of the world's most strategic chokepoints with no strong neighbors at all.

Walaal-how do you think this would impact the rest of the Continent or the Globe?

Part of me thinks that the Rest of the Continent would still somewhat be the same given they don't have the same conditions as the Somali Peninsula (Identity and Language) and that would impact their success but what are your thoughts?

Outside of changing perceptions of somalis/somalia. It wouldn't really have any large economic or social impact on the rest of the world. Although there would probably be more support and courting by foreign powers. We would definitely become a major regional player though since we'd be the bride between Africa and the middle east.

In terms of the rest of africa it would have basically 0 bearing on their success. Since nothing about somalia would be replicatable by these other countries. There is also the size factor of somalia only having 20 million people which allows us to benefit from even smaller economic opportunities and not have to coordinate large groups compared to countries with pouplations of 50, 60, or a 100 million.

True I was thinking more of the rest of Africa not being able to replicate if Somaliweyn does indeed become successful since they're trapped in Extreme Ethnic and Linguistic Competition inside of Brutal Borders that thankfully the Somali Peninsula doesn't have.

Yh its more the way somalis do business and raise mony or organize themselves is all predicated on being able to organize both within and among other clans in a society with a shared tradition. You cant really copy this system in a multi ethnic society which has no shared culture.

For this to happen u need to solve the constitutional crisis between puntland and sfg . And then u need to solve the alshabaab problem . Then you have to solve the most contentios issue in the Somali republic the Somaliland question the somalia and Somaliland conflict unity or independence. Then once u do that u need to agree on governance how will it be governed i am not saying it can’t be done but the struggle is real . I see the alshabaab issue can be solved if they are defeated . It can be resolved . How ever since the creation of the north east state somalia and Somaliland have a stand off and it won be resolved very easily so i see this . Even if hawiye and daarood combined forces and defeat the Isaaq clan and take their land and crush the secession bid . They will try to regroup another day and fight another day

The big probelm africa faces boils down to rhe fact that if you want to industrialize/develop. You need a physically healthy and educated pouplation with good infrastructure. This is of course not cheap and requires massive investment in health, education and infrastructure. Where will the billions to do this come from? You either have to raise taxes or borrow. Considering how poor the avg african is and how low the state capacity of the avg ssa country is the only reasonable choice is to borrow money. But the problem is that debt fuled growth is unsustainable unless your economy is growing fast enough.

So you end uo in this situation where most ssa countries which had a 30 % debt-to gdp ration in 2010 now have a 60% debt-to gdp ratio. Which means they have to raise taxes even more to pay off debt payments, and this has caused the increasing tensions and public unrest you see all across africa.

The constitutional crisis ultimately comes down to it not being in the interest of puntland or jubbaland for the fgs to gain power. My best guess is that after the creation of the northeast state and now awdal within the next year or two. This'll break the deadlock since the fgs will have 4 memebr states on its side vs the 2 opposing. Then both puntland and jubbaland will come to the negotiating table.

The somaliland question is obviously much more difficult and will probably require both external and internal pressure. As well as the fgs to achieve a certain amount economic growth so people want to jump ship and become pro unionist.

Anyways to answer your hypothetical I would have moved back to the region my parents are from and focus on educating my family and leaving a rich legacy for my descendents

I still fantasize about the success of my nation and people even while they're a Failed State-isn't that the highest form of love and loyalty

Only in Somalispot do you see this Backwards Mindset

Then what if we became a space fairing ethnicity that conquered stars. Then, what if you all got superpowers and become like the green lanterns or something. After that we'd come back to earth to stick to all those first world snobs! Wouldn't that be something?

SL like the rest of Somalia ect is very poor. If Somalia was to become rich and defeat Al Shaydaan and the economy and the living standards of locals in Somalia improves, the average citizen in SL wouldn’t be as invested in gaining independence. Why would they care about independence when their neighbors whom they’re trying to be independent of have more resources and are doing infinitely better? They wouldn’t even be able to stop their youth from migrating South. Right now, it doesn’t benefit landers to unite with the South, but it would be a completely different story if Somalia was to became an African super power. Ultimately, everyone wants to be able to feed their families and live in peace.

I could agree with you but then we’d both be wrong

Somali problems aren't unique, worse and more complicated issues have been rectified around the world recently, the question is why are we stagnant and unable to even properly talk about our differences?! I'd say Mogadishu plays big part in this endless stand-off, changing the capital can initiate a domino effect where we can solve all issues one by one.
