I disagree with them, but I don't necessarily think that they are wicked people, just misguided.

I think they're frustrated or proud people. They are usually either frustrated by the restrictions God imposes on man, without having the wisdom to understand why they exist or are frustrated by trauma caused by abuse from those who incorrectly taught them the faith (ex. from extremists). They are usually proud because they believe they can form their own ethical and moral code to live by. Based on my observations of atheists and secularists, it always ends up leading to degeneracy, ugliness, hedonism taken to extremes, and wanton destruction for the state that unfortunately has to deal with that psychological force of nature. All in all, it's a sweet poison that's consumed en masse and why the West will fall in about 2-3 generations. It's also the transition period between the divine faith (Christianity for the West) and the new age faith that is yet to come. It's why new age religion, astrology, spirituality, witchcraft and other doctrines are becoming more popular. The powers that be are preparing the masses.
