True. None of you want to end up with 100 cats as company.
That is goals right there. Insha'Allah one day I'll be rich enough to pay for a portrait of my non-existent dog.
I have a friend that does something along the same lines. He designs little graphics and sells them on posters, mugs, t-shirts etc. It's a fairly simple business, but you'd be surprised how many sales he makes through Etsy specifically. He has a top-tier website, had some decent SEO work done, and has good local ranking. Despite all that, a disproportionate amount of sales still come through Etsy and Amazon. He would get the printing outsourced until he saved up enough money and spent 12k~ on equipment and now makes solid margins on every sale. With talent and a bit of luck it can be pretty lucrative. Might be obvious advice, but yeah you should try to be on as many third party platforms as possible.
I've never understood making custom art pieces though, it's seems like it could easily lead to some unnerving experiences. Imagine working weeks on an art piece and the client does not f*ck with it at all. That alone would leave me uneasy working on the project lol
That's wicked, how much does he make in a yr/month?I'm just happy with some extra cash on the side loool
The SEO thing has always been kind of daunting to me ngl, did he do his by himself? Plus getting your stuff high enough on the etsy search rankings might take you awhile. I was actually planning on using different platforms tbh, a shopify page and etsy, I'll look into amazon/ebay as well. Do you know if he did any social media marketing? It's a pretty neat way to gain a following
Custom art can be lucrative but very time consuming. Like I have a job and other things I need to do I literally don't have time for thatA lot of ppl undervalue ur stuff too... Actually in the beginning I kept underpricing my stuff because I couldn't figure out what I was suppose to be charging customers but f*ck that tbh, some pieces can take as longs as 40hr a week, that's a full time job!
I've never had anyone dissatisfied with my work, usually if they have any issues or something they want changed i can sort that out without any problems. But I have heard lots of horror stories from people that do custom based stuff only lol I would be devastated
