However with increasing population in this city,the current methods are seemingly not sufficient to effectively and efficiently clean the town. Therefore, there is need to reinforce the current method with more new and appropriate methods to couple with the increasing population so as to keep this town s clean."

This article is from 2017 and they hit the nail on the head. We are witnessing the lack of waste management policy today. Since the collapse of the government in 1991, we entered a free market economy and imported everything as our population grew. Nobody seems to care that we have had 30 years worth of waste piling up in the country. Even the countryside is not safe from qashin. There is no sense of civic responsibility.

Everywhere you go in Puntland, you cannot bear to look at the unsightly view of litter, a sea of garbage, blighting the land from the shores of Bosaso coast along the Gulf of Aden to the scrublands west of Galkacyo. We observe similar scenes of desertification and litter in and around the other major towns in Puntland where it is predicted that the increasing population, rapid urbanization and expanding cities and towns will see the increased demand for fuel, generation of both solid and liquid waste and pollution.
