Wahabbism did a number on Somalis (and other parts of the muslim world)

Saudi Arabia destroyed the muslim world by exporting their 18th century wahabbism. Before the civil war,somali women could choose whether or not they wanted to wear hijab. Now though if you go out without a hijab you will be given strange looks or be insulted. A 1000 years of Sufism wiped out by some 200 year old extremist ideology that takfirs anyone who doesn't agree with it. I see literal 1 year old baby girls wearing hijab here it's so perverted and messed up.

Somalis should go back to their sufi roots. I miss the old somalis.
Is this the case for your people too (afars) In my opinion, ethiopian and eritrean muslims don't seem to be as affected by wahabbism as somalis.

so, i heard the reason niqab and hijabs weren't worn before the civil war is partly due to siad's government making it hard. Anyways, i think the reason wahabism is so prevalent in somalia is cuz there is no government to keep those mad sheikhs in check.

Exactly. Also,why are kids beaten in schools and quran classes it's messed up. I hate how we went from maintaining our sufi somali culture to being a semi carbon copy of Saudi Arabia. What's sexual about a 1 year old?

While i don't agree with sufism i agree this wasabisim is a foreign diseases.Society should encourage hijab but you shouldn't be harassed for not wearing it.

Alsofor the 1 year child no one is making the child wear it because their is anything sexual about it.i think parents want their child to be comfortable wearing it before they start womanhood. Its kinda odd but i dont think its because of sexualisation.

To be fair, while Saudi Arabia may have "exported" Wahabism to many places outside its territory mainly between 70s-00s, such as opening madrassas in Afghanistan durring the Soviet invasion. It was not so much the case in Somalia.

Over here, it was mainly Somalis living in the gulf, where countries were very conservative at the time and not just KSA, who then brought influences with them in the 80s and 90s. Along with the eruption of the civil war, Islamists influence became more noticeable. Then Somalis become more religious as the importance of the deed grew, less people were subscribing to sufism etc. When the Islamic Court Union took over power, then they started implementing Shariah.

By this time, most of them remaning southern Somalis had become religious and those who weren't left the country. Along with foreign educated scheiks (in countries where "Wahabism" was adopted) teaching the deed, and Somalis outside of southern Somalia became more practicing and religious. (This may not be 100%, but how I see it)

Regarding Niqab, that's a fairly new concept. I don't know how it got spread so quickly, but I think along with internet (such as social media scheiks) and exposure to muslims outside of Somalia, made it more popular. But I'm unsure.

i think sufism is very much alive in baadiyo. the wahhabis, hate them or not, are very good with media. and unfortunately, ig the sufis aren't as good at it cuz they mainly live in baadiyo. So, the average person hears the sufis getting slandered everyday and never the sufi's defense. this results in people forming a distorted view of sufism. but yeah, i hear the middle east is becoming more "progressive", so hopefully that trickles down to wahabis as well.

In Ethiopia, you guys live sparsely in a large area, mostly in smaller towns in the middle of nowhere. In Djibouti, possibly. • bring back Somali clothing for men and women
• Make somali names more popular
• bring back old somali words
• discard qabilnimo
• discard fgm
• discard wahabisim
• discard westernisation
• discard arabisation
• Embrace sharia(like how the prophet used to not like these madmen in the middle east)
• Embrace Somali architecture( not these ottoman buildings or the generic square skyscraper buildings)
• De-urbanisation make smart villages
• use a different script other than latin
• Encourage archeological work

The first majority of Somalis want and prefer Islamic principles to the backward pagan Somali culture. Also FYI, Sufis are Muslims, they were trying to implement the veil for centuries but were not successful as the Wahabbis.
