While at a gathering at Friendship Hotel in Addis Ababa in two different halls, the supporters and opponents of the administration of the Ethio-Somali Regional State engaged in a clash at the Hotel.

Both groups gathered at Friendship Hotel to hold meetings in two different halls, despite ending in a clash.

As witnessed by The Reporter both groups had entered into their rooms on the first and second floors. But, because of the allegation from the supporters that the opponents tried to take their pictures without their consent, the two groups engaged in a fight injuring one named Ibrahim Abdulkadir on his eyes.

According to Ibrahim, he was attacked for opposing the regional administration.

Finally, the clash was controlled by the involvement of the Addis Ababa and Federal Police officers. Both groups were then made to leave the hotel.

All qabiil posts will be deleted, let's discuss why Zoomaalis are incapable of solving their divisions and problems by themselves without fighting.

Viva Ethiopia, Or, They Would've Murdered One Another!!

They killed at least 14 men and seven women, and severely injured a baby boy, whose mother died while holding him.

During the shootings, a number of people ran into the village mosque seeking shelter. Liyu police officers pursued them and fired through the main door into the mosque. At least one elderly man … was wounded – shot in the leg – while inside the mosque,” reported HRW.

Residents fled the village and the Liyu Police prevented them from returning to bury their dead for almost a day. When they were allowed to return, they found their shops – which had been stocked up for Ramadan – had been looted.

According to eyewitness accounts to HRW, residents were forced to bury their dead in mass graves while the Liyu Police stood by and ordered everybody to remain silent and not to cry.

Viva Ethiopia

Because it's always old uneducated men who are supposed to solve our disputes. We need educated youth representing each opposing side to discuss and solve the problems within the Somali community.

There is also a lack of centralisation of leadership within Somali spheres because of our stupid allegiances to clan and sub clans. These problems need to be addressed or otherwise no progress will be made.

You are just proving my point because the Liyu police are all Somalis and come under the command of a Somali and their victims are Somali. The Ethiopians intervened and put a stop to it and settled their issue. Why can't they solve their problem short of violence and killings?

Let us not play semantics. Liyuu police are controlled by Ethiopian state. Ethiopia uses them as tool to maim, rape and torture innocent Somalis. Prior to the creation of Liyuu Police , non-Somalis were used to burn and murder defenceless Somali civilians.

Why wasn’t Ethiopia using non-violent means to deal with these problems?

Why did Viva Ethiopia kill thousands of Somalis in the Ogaden region.

Why does Ethiopia use the violent Liyuu police to control the Ogaden region?

Why does Ethiopia arm Somali warlords if they are so peaceful?

Puntland and Somiland and most of the North are examples Somalis can solve problems without fighting. Ethiopia is a military state where rival groups are made to fight over crumps. You think there is no violence in Ethiopia? It is only contained because the military is too strong to overthrow. Your comparison is silly and was only intended as propaganda for the “ look at the s” crowd.

Karim

I could agree with you but then we’d both be wrong

The opposing sides are probably Jidwaaq and other non Darood clans. Abdi iley will stay in power because he's ruthless yet developer and builder.. he's a bit of bad and good.

Abti, this sick dude wants to praise Viva Ethiopia because they stopped a couple of their stooges from fighting. It is like praising a drug dealer for stopping two of his runners from fighting. You are praising the problem, the brains behind all the killings.

I am not surprised two Anti “ s” @ Apollo and @ Aussie have been promoted to MODS. It goes in line with the agenda of site.

Why, why, why?

The Somali region is a Somali self-administered region of Federal Ethiopia. You portray Somalis as people who are civilised and are capable of peacefully coexisting with one another. Somalis had a stake of their region to be safe from terrorists like Alshabab just like the rest of Ethiopia.

The Somali warlords represented their clans and why didn't these clans have the intelligence and far sightedness to reach peace agreements instead of being supplied arms to wipe one another out?

Really?

In ever skirmish between these two entities, their leaders are immediately called to Addis ababa and pressured to reach a settlement because the Ethiopians are wary of other Islamists filling the vacuum if law and order breaks down in both states.

"Ethiopia, which enjoys close ties to both Somaliland and Puntland and has helped calm previous disputes..."

"Ethiopia, arguably, is the one country with longstanding ties to and real leverage over both Puntland and Somaliland. Addis Ababa’s past interventions were instrumental in brokering temporary truces."

What's this quick U-Turn?

You were accusing the region's Somali leader and his Liyu police of atrocities (Ethiopian orchestrated) in your initial post and now you accepted the conclusion of karim that "Abdi iley will stay in power because he's ruthless yet developer and builder.. he's a bit of bad and good".
So you agree that a "ruthless" leader is required to stabilise and humanise the savages? Ethiopia is the good guy??? Make up your mind!!!!

The onlf and other Somalis factions in Ethiopia should unite and overthrow the dictator that is oppressing them.

It is impossible Somalis to unite (for war) and ONLF is past by their use of date.

Never ending wars is not the solution.

How about a strategy based in restoring their region economically and educationally as a serious powerful entity within Ethiopia and becoming a major player in the political and economical sectors of the country? Can Somalis think out of the square and seek their common interests other than dragging themselves and their grand-children through more painful wars? The new prime-minister and his cabinet are making noises of improving the human rights of all Ethiopians and in particular those in the Somali region. How could they unite to cease this opportunity and develop their region for a better and brighter future for the children?

Ethiopia’s Somali region frees all political prisoners from Ogaden jail.

Wednesday July 11, 2018

President of Ethiopia’s Somali regional state has reportedly ordered the release of all political prisoners held in the region’s notorious jail facility.

According to Harun Maruf, a Voice Of America journalist who extensively covers the Horn of Africa region said Abdi Mohamud Omar, known as Abdi Illey released detainees including opponents and former security officials.

Other journalists stressed that relatives of the inmates had queued at the premises of Jail Ogaden officially known as Jijiga Central Prison.
The current move comes on the back of a scathing report on Jail Ogaden released by Human Rights Watch (HRW). The group called on Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to probe widespread rights abuses routinely carried out on inmates.

The 88-page report asserted that “Prison officials and security forces have arbitrarily detained and tortured prisoners for years in the notorious regional prison known as Jail Ogaden.

“Ethiopia’s new prime minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, should urgently order investigations into the horrific situation, and the government should ensure regional security forces and officials are held accountable.

“The prison’s security forces, including the Somali Region’s notorious paramilitary force, the Liyu police, are implicated. The unit reports to the Somali Region president, Abdi Mohamoud Omar, known as Abdi Illey.

“Most prisoners are accused of some affiliation with the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), a banned opposition group, but most never face charges or trials.”

Barely a week ago, Ethiopia’s Attorney General fired heads of prisons in the country, accusing them of failing to respect prisoners’ human rights in the discharge of their duties.

State broadcaster Fana BC reported at the time that Attorney General Berhanu Tsegaye called on their replacements to respect and protect human rights in accordance with the constitution.
“Those responsible for the abuse of human rights will face justice after the necessary investigations are completed,” he said.

Reformist Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is on record to have said that the state had in the past sanctioned torture of political opponents in a move he described as unconstitutional.
Mass release of political prisoners – regional and federal level

Ethiopia’s federal government has released thousands of political prisoners since the beginning of the year as part of reforms to open up the democratic space and revert to constitutionalism in the country.

Regional administrations especially Oromia, Amhara and Tigray, have all released political prisoners as part of the process of increasing political inclusion.

The notorious Maekelawi detention and investigation center was closed in April this year. The former prime minister Hailemariam Desalegn had announced in December last year that that the Maekelawi prison would be converted into a museum, and that a new center compliant with the national parliament’s guidelines on human rights and international standards would replace it.

Human rights activists and organisations have for a long time accused the Ethiopian government of torturing and mistreating its political opponents, who in the past have been detained en masse during periods of turmoil like the state of emergencies instituted in 2016 and early this year.

@Black Dahlia

@ Aussie hustler ,

Thank you . I just wanted to show your true intentions to the crowd. You have highlighted that in the last few posts.

Maraq

The crowd are in owe of you Sxb and they are pleased with the old tiring and prideful defensive and fluctuating tactics that you’ve exhibited for them above. They are asking you if you are available for a session of a Kumbaya song.

Sxb, I’m not a crowd pleaser and I couldn’t care less if they agree or not with me, what’s important to me is that they are capable to individually think and are able to see the facts on the ground. It’s quiet evident that we don’t like one another because of the clan dynamics within the Somali politics that leads us to continuous wars and stops us from ever developing into a better economies. Furthermore, just like a misbehaving children in a primary school, any decent person would be embarrassed by the constant involvement of foreigners to force us into ceasing our clan conflicts. Can we do it by ourselves? Do we need more wars? If your crowd are in denial mode just like you, Sxb, I can’t help them and am neither willing to sing kumbaya with them. Go ahead.
