I have no idea why western society has typically set the bar at 18. Are 12-17 years Olds too stupid or too incapable of handling a relationship? Even if you look at the "children" western society, 15 year Olds aren't stupid and are perfectly capable of handling themselves. If my child wanted to marry aged 12 I would encourage it and pay for it.
