ilhan goes to Somali events all the time , being booed at one doesn’t indicate anything . Also I’m specifically speaking about Somalis not Muslim in general young somalis identity as black and are assimilating into a unified black political identity ( the majority being liberal) . Now if we leave out the lgbt issues what other policies do young Somalis disagree with her about ? She’s against Israel and America’s foreign policy like the majority she supports free healthcare supports black lives etc

But most of who agree with her are moderate Muslim Somali women not men. Men don’t know how to adapt into a western culture which supports individualism and is tolerant towards different views. They have seen how the somali culture positively affected their fathers and them being served by their sisters and mothers. They want “that” to continue. While we have seen how our culture has negatively affected us and how “we” women don’t want that type of traditions to continue so we are easily accepting anything that respects women and whatever comes with that not just LGTBQ+. They hate Ilhan Omar because she is not the typical Somali Muslim woman they traditionally know.

But if there was a Somali congressman who supports liberalism, you wouldn’t have seen the huge amount of hate that Somali people have now for Ilhan Omar.

The freshman congresswoman, however, voted against House Resolution 1158, an appropriations bill that provided debt relief for Somalia, and House Resolution 1865 because they both “fail to hold this president accountable for his human rights abuses.”

Shortly after releasing her first statement, she issued a second statement explaining why she actually voted against the bill.

“Rather than using our mandate for reform, the national security bill passed today maintains the status quo in foreign policy, giving the president a blank check to continue unwinnable wars, allows him to fund his racist border wall, and increases funding for human rights abuses under ICE,” she said.

This, according to Omar, is “simply unconscionable.”

“The second package maintains the global gag rule and the Hyde amendment, creates a backdoor way to eliminate aid and starve the Palestinian people, recognizes support for Juan Guaidó as President of Venezuela and includes $1.3 billion in military funding for Egyptian dictator Abdel Fattah el-Sisi,” she continued.

According to Reuters, Somalia has about $5 billion in external debt, which accounts for nearly 100 percent of its GDP. The U.S. is the largest creditor and holds about $1.1 billion in the country’s debt.
