Yes af maay shares the same alphabet as the oromo language. Makes sense why a lot of people mistake it for oromo.

AF Maay and af Maxaa are very similar. AF Maay just doesn't have the "x" and "ca" sounds. Which is why you understand a lot of it.

That's cool, I forgot Oromo and Amharic, spent some time in Addis growing up till I was 4/5, moved to the west and English gobbled up everything except Somali.
