Saudis spent 350 billion dollar in 5 years, and now it is begging for peace.

Before that Yemen was contested between houthis and opposition, there was a chance to win against houthis via proxy war and houthis rivals .

Instead Saudis whipped out Houthis rivals and fought them by themselves.
the result is this

South yemen must seek independence due to their colonial inheritance and advantage over the mountain dwelling north who was under ottomans and became a state without any social or economic development. The merge of the two was silly like eritrea/ethio merge

I already said here before, and I’ll say it again. KSA and UAE are two different actors in the war with completely different interests. Just because KSA have opened up to peace and negotiations, doesn’t mean that UAE has nor intend to do so anytime soon.

For reference, the three main factions of the war are:
1. Int’l recognized Yemeni gov’t + KSA
2. Their ‘allies’ Southern Transitional Council (southern separatists) + UAE
3. Houthis + Iran

MBS is so angry that UAE used him and played him. He is not very good politician, the wolves UAE saw that and used him like an idiot after filling his ego and arrogance.

Exactly. As much as KSA will have a lot of sway in the outcome of the ending of war, UAE's demands will have a greater share of influence. It will most likely end with some form of division or federation of the country against KSA's wish. Most likely a north-south deal.

Houthis will have to rescind their aspiration of taking over the entire gov't and STC will have to give up on a total independence.

The map below was October 2022, with green-Houthi, red-Gov't, yellow-STC.
As evident, on the allied side STC controls the most strategic areas and thus will STC/UAE have a final say in the end. (Most of the red marked area is uninhabited desert, thus practically little value)

There are also cracks within Southern Transition Council who wish a separation based on the former north-south borders, when they unified in the 90s. While Haudrmaut (the largest province) have indicated for a complete exit of their own from the country. So on the ground, despite only existing three main blocs: KSA/gov't, UAE/STC, Iran/Houthi; large swaths of the country is controlled by militias allied with them. Hadramaut is no different here, which complicates the situation further.

The Future of South Yemen and the Southern Transitional Council

Here's an in-depth article on the Hadramaut situation and what makes them different and unique from the rest of the country, and what led up to this demand of autonomy/separation.

I have a hard time seeing this peace process go through. Houthis seem to be hellbent on most of their demands, which is why most of the previous attempts have failed. Unless they become more pragmatic, which I highly doubt :kanyehmm:

They are asking Saudia to pay for salaries :damn:

Reminds me of a child asking a parent why their sibling received something they didn't :lolbron:

KSA already pays some militias and employees of the Yemeni gov't. Which is why they now are demanding their 'share'. Talk about being entitled to other people's money :draketf:

Y'all always have interesting insights and links into such conflicts. This place was more my source of news for the conflict in Ethiopia than anywhere else, not gonna lie.

I'm the SSpot resident correspondent responsible for Ethiopian affairs :mjpls:

I just happen to have a deep interest for conflicts, especially political and historical perspectives. I've followed all major conflicts unfold in the past decade, that I'm probably qualified to be a lecturer at this point pun intended, kkk :drakekidding:

Have you considered becoming a Political Science professor? Or would that spoil your hobby?

I thought about it, but I never wanted this 'hobby' to turn into an employment. I would probably loose interest over time. Might as well just continue keeping as something I engage in my leisure time :ohno:
