I knew it was illegal but not that. But that being said, literally everyone here uses them. Torrenting was huge here back when it was big worldwide and they didn't care. I was genuinely shocked when a friend who moved to the US told me he got pinged and warned by the authorities for using torrents there pretty quick. The UAE is very lax about cybercrimes compared to the west. They really don't care about the random dude's VPN use, p*rn habit or illegal downloads. There's a lot of looking the other way here in general with many laws they can afford to be lax on.
