That's mostly in the rural parts of the country, and less so in urban areas where they aren't as practicing. The Lagos area alone has a population of 25+ million, which could give a hint that it may come from there.

I knew a guy once who fell in love with a "woman" from the internet. The picture was of a very beautiful blonde white woman. Her location was Nigeria. I don't remember what reason "she" gave that she needed his bank info... but I remember how upset he was at all the money he lost.
