Ururka Mideeye is one of Puntland's 10 political associations and led by Ali Haji Warsame, Asad Diyano, and Farah Ali Shire. They released a statement yesterday applauding the corrupt Dhusomareeb 3 agreement made by Farmajo, Galnus, Hirshabelle, and SWS. They urged Puntland and Jubaland to follow what those men agreed on this week, despite the agreement being made without them and their legitimate constitutional concerns being ignored. They even thanked Galnus for hosting despite Qoorqoor abandoning his mediator position to join Farmajo and despite Puntland paying for and handling security since these conferences began last month.
Ururka Mideeye forgets that they're a party vying for office in Puntland with federal politics well outside their mandate. Puntland is united on this issue and stands behind President Deni so they faced heavy backlash from Puntites across social media for undermining Puntland in the middle of an ongoing political dispute.
Below is a quote from Juxa alluding to Ali Haji Warsame's past as a member of Al Itihaad, a precursor to Al Shabaab that was led by Hassan Dahir Aweys. Al Itihaad invaded Puntland in 1992 and captured several towns, but were crushed by local forces in a matter of weeks.
In response to the backlash, Ururka Mideeye ended up releasing a second statement on their official channels as damage control.
The writers of the second statement said that they were blindsided by the first traitorous statement and that it was written by individuals who are unable to separate their personal beliefs from the party's positions. They claimed that the first statement was written by rogue individuals who do not represent the majority of Ururka Mideeye.
However, not long after, Ururka Mideeye accounts deleted this second statement and labeled it as fake on all of their official channels, making it clear - if there was any doubt - who is really in control of this party.
This shows turmoil in a party containing normal Puntites who have just realized that they're members of an anti-Puntland party.
In the coming days, there will likely be an exodus as the anti-Puntland faction leading Ururka Mideeye tightens their grip now that the mask has slipped off. Expect them to double down in their support for Farmajo.
