Turkish Minister of Energy announces oil drilling in Somalia by 2026

The results of the surveys will be announced in December, it seems promising but if they decide to move only 1-2 oil rigs it will be as if nothing changed

"...we aim to move on to the drilling phase next year, depending on the interpretation and mapping studies of geological and seismic data..."

Sounds like they haven't decided on whether to move forward yet.

Anyway all this is known. TPAO hasn't even acquired the ships it would intend to deploy.

This is just for an exploratory well in a frontier region.

Commercial oil could be decades away, just look at the case of Namibia which had promising geological surveys in the 1970s and is only just expected to produce at the end of this decade.

Yes the results will drop next month, Im sure its promising it doesn't depend on how much there is but how much they're willing to invest

After all, its Somalia were talking about here, any investment is risky, Pirate attacks are still a possibily although there is barely one a year now, but if it happened there is no Somali Navy to protect the shidaal, and the coastguards only exist on paper

It will be protected by the Turkish Navy. It's part of the maritime defense agreement signed in 2024.
