Turkey has been a popular destination for Somalis , for quite a time ,
we've witnessed that maryooleys are packing their suitcases , pouring into that country in large droves.
And at first I thought it was Somali refugees fleeing from Syria's Civil War (there used to be a large community in Damascus pre-2011) seeking asylum in that country, but nah Turkey was always an alternative transit route for migrants to enter via Europe, despite the harsh steep mountains and colder climate it was safer and more humane to travel than the hellhole Libya, but they had a rude awakening at the greek-turko border, which wasn't different than how migrants were mistreated in Libya.
I've done couple of research and Turkey's popularity for Somalis began in 2011, before that there were smaller refugees living in that country, mostly living in Izmir. It wasn't a popular place back then, many Somalis had negative perceptions living in that country , they feared the living conditions of a foreign country to be alien enough thus it was nothing but an alternative transit stop, most Somalis at the time preferred living and working in the abusive Gulf states and we know how that turned out to be.
Look I'm not going to explain in depth how this country was generous enough to lend a hand to our people at our worst times and unfortunately pamper the corrupt nation of ours, there are no other so called Muslim country as close as Turkey is , in terms of assistance, etc.
After 2011, the perception of the Turks widely changed, Turkey offered scholarship to unqualified doctors, military training to new Somali recruits and above all invested their interests whichever sectors throughout the country.
The renovated airport , the newly constructed hospital and ofcourse the countless educational facilities operates in their language,
Overall Turkish airlines operates from Istanbul to Mogadishu non stop, it became the first international flight to operate in a war torn country , not even our neighbours Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways had ever operated at Aden Abdulle before Turkish Airlines,
it was always low budget and former Lufthansa planes stopping from tuulo to tuulo to the final destination , a painstaking journey tbh.
It was the new phase , and beginning of Turk-gasm , so yeah I'm not surprised at all, the West are weary and looking at a close attention,
regardless of their skepticism , deep resentment and perception of Erdogan's administration, it's a developed nation, Turkey is in the league with the big boys, meanwhile rich Arabs monarchies are frequently licking Trump's balksack, Turkey has proven to become a voice for the voiceless Muslims by standing up against the injustices carried out by warmongers, a brilliant way to gain and harness support from 1.6 billion Muslims.
I'm not saying that Turkey is manipulating the masses, but they are sure smart enough to play the cards right, all medias are propaganda based on their own biases and TRT is no exception, every nation secure their own interests a department we Somalis are lacking with, instead of understanding the true intentions of Ankara despite their genorous handouts, we tend to lack any comprehensiveness of the situation and not fully grasp that we are just a pawn proxy due to our strategic location and closer proximity to the ME.
Turk-gasm it is.

Somalia is a third world country wether you like it or not , it's not an ideal country to live in , runta lagama cararo , hence most ambitious people and pioneers risk their lives overseas and Turkey is offering them since it's a top destination in the global index , sure it's a top notch tourist attraction, with rich history and a former ottoman empire it definitely surpasses South Africa's tourism industry.
But I don't understand why Somalis from the west who live a comfortable life are willing to sacrifice everything they have and move to Antalya, Ankara , Istanbul , Izmir and Konya, many are even buying properties , settling in large numbers , sending their kids to Turkish school ofcourse it would make sense for non western Somalis living in Turkey but why Western Somalis ?
I can never understand .
Turk-gasm is also happening in South Africa , it's actually trending here , there are Turkish businessmen I have befriended ( they're Kurdish from the eastern part of Turkey) , they've opened carpentry and several warehouses they told me , Africans living in Turkey are mostly Somalis,
Gambians , Nigerians , Ghanaians and Kenyans.
Then a friend of mine , sold his shop and moved his family to Turkey, now it's several people I know of , this is quite dysfunctional .
I can never understand Turk-gasm perhaps some of you can explain
