Tribalism

"The cheapest sort of pride is national pride; for if a man is proud of his own nation, it argues that he has no qualities of his own of which he can be proud; otherwise he would not have recourse to those which he shares with so many millions of his fellowmen. The man who is endowed with important personal qualities will be only too ready to see clearly in what respects his own nation falls short, since their failings will be constantly before his eyes. But every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud adopts, as a last resource, pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and glad to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority."

Nationalism is interchangeable with tribalism here, and this what a lot of you are suffering from. You're not yet even advanced enough to the national level.

This includes believing you are innately superior to any people let alone fellow Somalis whom you share 98% of your genetic make up.

Grow up and develop your critical thinking skills.

:comeon:

You're asking too much, Somalis will never get rid of their qabiil

Lol I would never advocate letting go of it. It's part of our history but people should think of it the way they think of their last name or the current city they reside in. Doesn't make you better than anyone it's just what you are and it is what it is.

Haha Somalia will never amount to anything great just give up on it, qabil will forever exist. It is the beating heart, a curse the final heart attack besieged by the drawn out civil war. A fragmented region without its circulatory system interconnected. It's deeply rooted arteries clogged by tribal ties. Consequently Somalia is on life support machine, a perpetual coma unable to wake.

If Qabil impacts politics negatively then qabilists should sit down and rethink their life.

I don't care about it but if it impacts the progression of Somalia politically and economically then that is not a necessary good thing.

Qabilism is here to stay for the foreseeable future because you can't ask people to let go of legitimate grievances. It's very easy to not be short-sighted out here because few of us have legitimately been affect on a personal level. No, not your uncle or granddad, but you.

It is a waste of energy to combat qabilism through words

Somalis have had tribes for what? 1000 years?

It was introduced into Somalia around the same time of Islam.

Isn't it ironic that the Arabs who brought tribes into Somalia have had tribes for many thousands of years before that, yet are less tribalistic than the Somalis?

Qabilism hasn't got shit to do with our current predicament. You really think the warlords and the politicians on top really listen to these deranged elders arguing beneath those trees?

Those politicians just use them and qabilism whenever it suits them and ignore them most of the time while filling out UN/IMF & Worldbank grant applications "for Somalia".

We all know it's just corruption and outside influences that keep us in our current situation. Qabilism ain't it and it might end up helping later when we need to unite to finance our industries. No other country has the demographics like Somalia and could do what we can if we united through clans.

Don't think of them as xenophobic family lines but groups with memberships over 100,000 people with high levels of trusts. Would have some great implications in business investments, banking and insurance. Other countries with clans won't be able to make use of them apart from in Politics due to the difference in demographics (single ethnicity that makes up 90% of the population).

Remember the Somali Youth League? When they emerged they intentionally hid their qabil from one another so that they could focus on the bigger picture, the liberation of Somalia from the British and Italians. I wish our leaders could do the same :deargod:
My hooyo told me about how my ayeyo was a young girl when it happened, and how she ran around listening to all the radios blasting out the announcement. Imagine :kendrickcry:

Because they're rich af now, not Bedouins killing each other over watering holes like in Somalia legit every other day.

The only Arabs that give a damn about qabiils are the dirt poor Yemeni hill monkeys :icon lol:

true when people are fed, clothed, and comfortable they don't have time or energy for the bs.

Tribalism is a non issue. Who cares if somalis want to hate each other? The problem is clan elders having a lot of power, probably more than any government. As soon as people stop giving these old men power to start fights, the faster tribal skirmishes end :) but that'll only happen when people know they can trust the government
