Thoughts on this being and others like him?

So I've been fascinated with this topic for quite a bit now and really am still wondering what he/they are. They are known as shadow people and apparently their boss is the infamous figure known as the "hatman" who many people all over the world have seen usually during night and sleep paralysis. Now, there's many different theories as to what they are. Some say they are jinn, many say they feel a strong hostile energy from these beings and believe them to be angry spirits from beyond the grave, stalking the living, while others think they might be psychic remnants of inhabitants from another dimension, their either trying to make first contact with us, or trying to warn us of something. Their description of the hatman after they've seen him is usually a tall man, wearing a hat. Accompanied by other shadow beings. These beings have been mentioned all through out history, and people have been scared of them for a while now. I encourage you to do your own research on the internet of these beings. What do you think they are?
