This is truly messed up

I grew up in the west and as the years go by, I feel less and less connected to Somalia.. This worries me a lot but at times I tell myself I cannot fight nature.. How y'all feel about your connection to Somalia as your country?

I don't think I'll ever return to somalia in my lifetime I went there in 2012 as a kid and I decided to never go back again. Was there for two months Almost died twice and I rarely left the house. I remember a bullet passing through my room while using a tablet in my bed

A bullet passing you in your own house is fucking wild

Had different experience in Djibouti in 2014 and one time when I lived there for 6 months and was about to stay permanently. Very good but boring. The trips to the beaches were nice, at sun down the kids would go to the big bridge that closed and we'd play football there until night. The little snacks you can't get in the west.
Walking into a medieval looking ass cavern to eat at a Yemeni fish and baris with my dad and his business partner.
The weddings Ect ect.

The north is blessed while the south is cursed. I remember going to Borama as a kid and I had fun playing football with the local kids. The north is the only place I'm willing to visit in somalia. Djibouti is great my parents went there but they complained about the heat

Yeah the heat is literally unbearable, even by African standards

Is there any logical reason to explain the excessive heat in Djibouti?
Nearly all of Djibouti are in the Danakil depression. Literally a volcanic land so far down from the rest of the Horn it might as well be hell.

although Somalia has a long way to go, I’ve never felt ive belonged more in any other place. InshaAllah when our country becomes stable again I’d like to build a beach house and spend every summer there. there’s nothing like being among people that look and speak like you

@lahaine Sorry walal my militiamen got a lil too excited off the khad that bullet was never meant to travel through your house.
@Abdisamad I still feel deeply connected to the place somehow especially when I’m observing the landscape the feeling of nostalgia is unreal.
@Khaemwaset I’m sorry to hear jabuuti being inhospitable due to the excessive heat, you’re more than welcome to cool off in Baley mountains during the wet seasons which run from April through October. Or Daalo mountains for the sake of distance.

currently in xamar right now and honestly after being whitewashed for most of my childhood and not somali enough, I now feel like this is where I want to and can come back to for my future. Im seeing the city improve in real time and I have hope for this country Alx.

I went back in 2017, and stayed in Borama for 2 months, funny enjoy I got lighter in skin tone and shed about 15kg, my diet consisted of meat, camel milk and various fruits that grew on my family farm.

I felt more fulfilled and happier like I belonged somewhere for the first time, life was a lot slower, and I can see myself retiring there in my 40s.
