When I was in high school I had managed to integrate a "group of friends", in fact I was the lousy service who helped out when you needed to pass the homework and the double copies, but at least that allowed me to not be alone and well there were times when we had a good laugh anyway.
I had a best friend or the one I hung out with all the time and who was super nice to me he always waited for me to go to the canteen when the others didn't etc. He was an Chad from Spain, and one fine day I was with him and another friend, there's a girl who approaches us and says that she basically finds my best friend super handsome and everything and if it is possible to have his number. He politely declines and that's it.
I tease him saying:
"Wow you're mistaken she was pretty the girl anyway!"
"No, don't worry, I'm taking my time and it's not the priority these days."
it could have ended there, except that the other friend who was there launched the sentence that marked me for life:
"It's funny, because in the group there's one who doesn't want to have a girlfriend, and another who can't have one."
I didn't say anything, years later, I realize that this friend was right all along. I see the scene very clearly in my head, I remember everything, my buddy's voice, the intonation, every word.
