I think it's a combination of the piracy problem that put Somalia on the map and the many Somali refugees in Western countries (no mas..). At least with Yemenis they aren't moving to the West much..

That too, but i'm sure that whatever plans they have in Somalia plays a role as well.

Yemenis have been dying by the thousands for a couple of years now, and now they are dealing with starvation as well. But they get no attention.

Actually, Pochahontas being Native American doesn't group her with the North Americans in terms of reaction to tragedies. They got murked by the Europeans to the category of "wait, do those ppl even exist?????", which I would argue is worse than anything on the list.
