One thing I have noticed on online Muslims circleis that the term “wahabi” is basically used to mean conservative Muslims.And that its used in general to make mainstream Islamic values seem extreme.
For example every so often a thread pops up on why prior to the civil war Somali didn’t used to wear hijabs.And inevitably a large part of the answers would be “it’s the wahabi’s brother”.
It’s generally used by people to divide Muslims into to camps the good “moderate”Muslims and the evil “wahabis”.In this situation a wahabi is just someone who is too religious for the accuser.
I understand many people on this website aren’t Muslim or are just culturally Muslims but just felt like I should clarify this.
