The UAE is trying to punch above its weight and starting to worry the US policymakers.

US Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Jeffrey has signaled that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) could soon be hit with sanctions if it pushes ahead with normalisation efforts with the Syrian regime, under the recently passed Caesar Act.

I really want to see what kind of reaction the US will have for the UAE's capture of the Socotra island. If it keeps mum, other regional players might try to take Socotra from the UAE by force since the STC rebels who control the island on behalf of the UAE have no international legitimacy.
