The Samaroon Question

This fella has already summed it up.

Additionally, there is a large division between the subclans that he hasn't mentioned. The two largest and most relevant subclans, Nour Yonis (Makahil) and Habar Muuse (Maxamed Case), are largely divided, and the future of Beesha in the north depends on them. Aslong as those two are not united then the rest will be hopeless. It'll be a repeat of the 90s when we were split in 3 factions.

Moreover, there's a lack of competent leadership that cannot be bought. Many of the Samaroon leaders, including both the elders and politicians, receive the Suqaar treatment from Hargeisa.

He ain’t wrong IOG would also arm Ciise to fight you, SSC has a supply route from Bosaso, Garacad, Laas-Qoray where would awdal get weapons there surrounded by enemies on all sides?

The Suqaar treatment is effective. However, in Djibouti you should have close ties with the Ciise. I understand that IOM is the biggest suqaar victim, but Ciises in general are closer to Samaroon than Isaac. I also know that Ciises are the top dogs in Djibouti but Samaroon is 2nd, and Isaqs are third class citizens. There should be a plan for Samaroons to use Djibouti as an ally beyond IOM. Maybe marry one of his girls…?

The coastal towns used to be a hotspot for smuggling and would potentially be used again if need be. There used to be Samaroon smugglers that supplied arms to subclan conflicts.

Excerpt from 2009:
Weapons smuggling

The militia leader, who requested anonymity, said: "There are two routes for weapons to enter Somaliland - crossing from Bosasso [in Puntland] to the eastern regions of Somaliland, and from the west, especially the area between Zaila and Lughaya at a place called Sanka Doonyaha, where fast boats load weapons at night."

Abdillahi Omar Qawdhan, a Somaliland coast guard consultant and marine expert, told IRIN: "We have information that illegal small arms are smuggled to parts of the Somaliland coast but what we know is that small-calibre ammunition is imported to the west coast in sacks by the Yemeni boats that import fuel and other items to the west coast ports such as Cel-Sheik, Bula-Har, Bulo-Addo and Zaila.

"We have information that even small arms such as the BKM and bullets are being imported by local businessmen. Weapons destined for Ethiopia as well as Somalia have been smuggled to these places.

"Since the beginning of 2009, we have recovered more than 300 pistols [smuggled in] from Yemen in the eastern Berbera [Sahil region]," he said.

It's certainly very effective. However, there was a time when no one even cared to pay attention to the Suqaar beneficiaries, and it's possible that we could revert to that era.

Relations with the Ciise in Djibouti are relatively normal. There's blood ties despite our differences. Even Guelleh himself was mothered by the Samaroon, Habar Muuse subclan I mentioned in the OP, as are a lot of Ciise, and vice versa even in Ethiopia.

You're right, though. We could ally with the Ciise who are in favour of our unity and have the same interests as us. I don't know about marrying one of his girls, though. :mjkkk:

We're already well established in Djibouti and would have financiers and military personnel in the Djibouti army whom we could call upon for support, provided they can circumvent Guelleh's vigilant gaze.
