The ruins of Mareeg

Mashallah. I heard it was the capital or co-capital of the Hiraab Imamate but ever since Al Shabab it looks like people have left the southern coast of Mudug and Galguduud. Inshallah we revive the boqortoyo.

You are correct it was the second capital of Hiraab Imamate and also the ruins hold the grave of Wacdaan Cismaan the younger brother of Abgaal Cismaan and many Ajuuraan rulers are buried there.

But it was not abandoned recently, the town was abandoned at the beginning of world war two. The British fleet bombarded it, due to heavy Italian presence there. They used some sort of poisonous gas that made the area uninhabitable for years. So most of the towns inhabitants moved 30kms inland to a place with a large well, a village that would later grow into the town of Ceeldheer.

Also the coast is a prime grazing land, it never had that many permanent settlements but a lot of Wells and green dooxo dotted all over the place.

I know you're not an archaeologist but it would be great if you can snoop around and take some pictures to give us a sense of the scale. It would be even greater if you can take some drone pictures if possible.

Mareeg is even more ancient, it was already a prominent area in the days of the imams of the ajuuraan, such a historical place needs to be protected.

Mashallah check out the sheihk daud mosque if you go there for me. Very qaadimi and historical.

Nah bro it is xaram to take a religious journey in veneration of specific places that are not the three holy mosques.
It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No journey should be undertaken to visit any mosque but three: al-Masjid al-Haraam, the Mosque of the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and the Mosque of al-Aqsa.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (1132) and Muslim (1397).
Although it is acceptable to visit ruins to gain cilm and appreciation for the wonders Allah SWT created. So I will visit it in this sense iA. No bidcah for me.

"Say: Travel in the land and see how (Allaah) originated the creation, and then Allaah will bring forth the creation of the Hereafter (i.e. resurrection after death). Verily, Allaah is Able to do all things”

[al-‘Ankaboot 29:20]

BTW according to my Abkow the ancient ruins are few kilometers West of the abandoned port town and mosque.
