He informed me that he understood Somalia's difficulties with terrorism, war, and poverty and that many other African countries had similar challenges. He Said We have experienced many worse days and have gone nearly a century of poverty and humiliation.He Told me Focusing on industrialization only is the secret that allowed China to be saved from those shackles of Misery . Industrialization is the path to self-sufficiency, and it will make your country a respected nation in the eyes of all if you can't industrialize you will forever stay poor and undeveloped.

We Somalis are stupid, to be honest. I've seen many businessmen waste millions of dollars on meaningless things like hotels, restaurants,malls and land, if they focused on creating industries, they could have created many jobs and become millionaires while also improving the country.

Nearly all 50 countries in Africa had higher gdp per capita than China 45 years ago, now hardly any african country does. China benefited a lot from political centralisation, they standardised mandarin, and benefited hugely from economies of scale.

This is what I've been advocating for, industrialization is very important for the countries development, but I'm afraid most Somalis don't even know the word industry.. But in order to industrialize we first need a capable government to support the process.

Before that we need Somali businessmen to setup trade schools and companies to train and slowly turn the country self sufficient in the basic trades (plumbing, construction, electrical grid implementation/maintenance, and steel recyclign and manufacturing)
It will be all for profit at first, basically a recovering country will need these trades and it’s better for Somali companies to provide them than foreign.

Later on the initially trained Somalis will divest and setup their own things and so on and so forth till we have many small scale industrial communities and towns and a few big industrial zones.

This is still just the surface and afterwards these small scale industries will become massive corporations with influx of mining money and government handouts causing stiff foreign competition it massive growth for the economy. After this we shall be a ‘industrialized’ country.

Roads are not that crucial tbh dirt roads regularly
Maintained and a few important tarmac highway roads to hard to reach zones are all that’s needed to setup thriving industrial communities.
Sadly the most crucial factor in everything is the work ethic of your average Somali joe which leaves much to be desired.

Our country should not even be experiencing a power outage. We could generate electricity from the sun because it is usually 31 degrees throughout the year, and many colder nations rely on solar energy; we should do the same.

I agree sxb, the government should prioritize investment in the energy and infrastructure sectors, this will enable us to industrialize and develop into a modern nation.

It's Depressing The majority of the labour force and infrastructure workers are Madowweyne. Normal Somali faarax would prefer to accomplish nothing at all and live off welfare from Europe and america we should stop that culture its creating lazy unproductive generation .

This mirrors what I said years ago:

I seriously don't understand why African Nations don’t seem to grasp the simple fact that they don't need to keep borrowing money from international creditors -- as long as they build the industrial plants, factories and refineries necessary for independent economic growth.



Instead of borrowing money for every individual infrastructure project... they should build cement factories, steel mills, chemical plants, refineries, fertiliser plants and glass factories.



They should then create National banks that will issue credit for dozens of infrastructure projects -- without external debt; and Tertiary institutions should be established to churn out thousands of engineers and other technical professionals to carry out the work.



The very best, experienced upper management personnel should be sourced from Europe and Asia -- with domestic Deputies assigned to each one, so that we may directly learn how to manage these projects on our own moving forward.



I would start with fertiliser plants and rail freight lines; the billions we could make from agriculture should then be used to build all the other industrial plants.

but then again, can you trust somalis to do get rid of the corruption and incompetence? HSM talks a lot about building the human capital and social insitutions conductive to development but will it actually get done??

your putting the cart before the horse sxb. the issue is there’s no large scale electrical grid in east africa in order for large scale industry and manufacturing to occur. somalia has the most power in the world. their is a reason many people open up hotels instead
