It will benefit all of Somalia because you only need 27 ton of Uranium to power a nuclear reactor a year which will be able to provide extremely effecient energy and provide 1 GW.

That makes sense, but where will they find the money ? One reactor costs billions and they obviously cant afford it, I dont see any foreign company building it for them either cause its not like oil where you can share revenue

Thats a good question i didn't even think of that. I am not really sure, i assume Almond Holding group will put up the money at first and then they will attract more investments later.

Apparently its completely new in the domain of mining and nuclear energy, Almond group was founded in 2019 to transport cargo by plane from nairobi to xamar or by road, they also have hotels
I thought this was shady at first, but General Electrics also went from making light bulbs to nuclear reactors after government contracts
What I think will happen is they will try to find significant uranium deposits first, then start mining them to make a profit by exporting them, the company says they plan on providing capital for that if the state lets them, and probably years down the line they will hire nuclear scientists to make their nuclear energy project into reality
So what were looking at here is another PPP project, I'm more confident in private companies than fgs so the mining will probably go well inshallah

From the looks of things, the IAEA will cooperate with Almond Energy and probably guide them through the process
Im saying this because when the UAE established ENEC (their national nuclear company) the IAEA sent experts in 2009 to guide them through the process of making nuclear energy and made the UAE the first Arabian country with nuclear power plants, I see no other way than this once they find the Uranium deposits
Turkey could also help since it has a good nuclear program, I dont see them refusing ngl

Also found this, in 1968 United Nation geologists estimated Somalia's reserves of Uranium to be 800 000 tons, worth 150B$, so enough to power 3 nuclear power plants for 500 years and still manage to export 500 000 tons (worth 100B$)

Nah that’s all just a back up plan for Turkey. They have a $24b nuclear power plant being built, owned, and operated by Russia.

Something needs to be done to find new alternatives or in a decade the country will be faced with an energy crisis and Gas seems like the most realistic other option but its expensive as well, nuclear is a real opportunity once you build the facility and it doesn't have any major downsides if done right
For the first few years this could even just be exporting uranium to fund other energy projects
If Ethiopia crumbled today then the gas in Galbeed, the damming of the Shebelle and Juba, and even geothermals along our side of East African Rift are all on the table.

Yeah, it's a Somali conglomerate Almond Holding group was founded in 2010 its been operational for quite sometime, but it's subsidiary Almond Energy was founded in 2019, its a sister subsidiary to Almond Air & Logistics Limited.
Since its a domestic Somali owned company we can trust it much like Hormuud and Dahabshil, conglomerates in Somalia operate like social enterprises that invest locally, employing Somalis, and fund community projects and It's stating that it's priority is to build local capacity so that's a good sign as well.
It's a good thing it isn't a foreign company because the revenue will go straight into the Somali economy whilst also big chunk of the revenue will go to the government through shared stakes and taxes on top of that.
This will be major because it would mean that Somalia will be less impacted by the global energy crisis in the future. But also think for a second where that growing uranium demand places us , it would mean Somalia could become a strategic supplier in the global nuclear energy market which means it will attract a lot more investment, increase in geopolitical relevance, and it will be a major boost to our national revenues.

About the cost, I may have over estimated it
They say it will cost them $22m for exploration which they will provide
Dhusamareb is the most likely place to find the Uranium at surface level even, the old report says Dhusamareb got an estimated 8000t which would require $200m in today money to build the infrastructure to mine and process it, but with today's methods it might be cheaper
Somalia as a whole generates 46 mW according to latest reports by Ember Energy Institute
Big countries in the west build B$ reactors because they are already massively urbanized, have more domestic electricity needs and more industfy as well as way more people than the tiny 18m in Somalia, they also invested in nuclear energy during cold war days so their tech is big, expensive and outdated
Recently there's a new thing that emerged called Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)
Its basically small Nuclear reactors and they dont cost that much
Argentina are building this Small reactor called CAREM for around $500m and it will generate 100mW, 2 times what Somalia generates right now
South Korea also recently approved this design of a SMR project called SMART which cost 500m and will generate 100mW also
The US made these simple and small reactors each generating 20mW and costing 100m per unit called pwr-20
Nuclear energy really has come a long way, everything people know about nuclear is decades old, I think the project could be succesful considering the cost could be 1b$
Also these get built way faster than the gigantic traditional nuclear power plants, their construction for most are estimated at 4-5 years
Its interesting that they're suddenly investing in nuclear when this revolutionary technology comes out
