The End of History.

In Francis Fukuyama's book, The End of History, he paints this picture of liberalism finally reaching the status of the dominant worldview in the world and that the world has turned into a unipolar one; with secular liberalism as its percieved default axis.

His work recieved relative popularity and was held by many as an adequate way to describe the modern world and its trajectory.

Obviously, there was some push back to this idea, and surprisingly, it came from Fukuyama's teacher.

He proposed the idea that history wouldn't end with liberalism reigning supreme after having won the cold war. He posits the idea that; no, the world order isn't heading to a unipolar state, but to a multipolar one. However, this time, wars won't be based on economic philosophies, but on ways of life or based on 'civilizations' as he puts it.

He divides these 'civilizations' into these categories:

The Islamic
The Western(secular, liberal)
Russian
Chinese
Etc

What are your opinions on such opinions and what implications do they lead to in relation to Islam?

Something interesting is that Francis Fukuyama after being asked about his teacher's objection of his work and the 'proofs' he brought to refute him; said that the Islam had more of a chance of creating that civilizational drive because of the concept of the Ummah, and that Islam is seemingly the only one that actively tries cultivate its own civilization.
