The Antaimoro ethnic group of Madagascar

The Antemoro (or Antaimoro) are an ethnic group of Madagascar living on the southeastern coast, mostly between Manakara and Farafangana. Numbering around 500,000, this ethnic group traces its origins back to settlers who arrived from Somalia.

Antemoro villages are primarily clustered in the southeastern coastal area near Vohipeno and Manakara. Society was traditionally divided into two broad categories: the mpanombily (or tompomenakely), who were nobles said to be descended from somalis from Dir clan Somali tribe, and the menakely, composed of the working and slave classes, who were said to have descended from the local Malagasy who submitted to the Somali' rule, or alternately from slaves that the Somalis had brought with them.

So I was reading up on Madagascar due to the hurricane that hit them and I came upon this has anyone heard of this super weird.

Yeah Somalis did go to Madagascar and were the first to bring Islam there along with some Arabs.

Genetically, their paternal haplogroups are J1 and T1. Dir being mostly T1, it does point towards them being descendants of Dir somalis.

Whoever edited the Antemoro Wikipedia page and inserted the above assertion that the Antemoro descend from Somali Dirs is engaging in some sort of Somali Hotepism.

The Anteony and Antaloatra are the traditional elites of the Antemoro who descend from more recent Middle Easterners, not Dir Somalis. Going by STR data, the T that predominates among the Anteony elite is not the same one commonly found among Northern Dir Somalis. There is also no firm historical evidence whatsoever that Somalis settled South-Eastern Madagascar establishing the Antemoro Kingdom.
