Superblocks for cities

They're neat. I wouldn't mind adopting that in Africa. They don't have to be that cramped and take up the whole city tho, they'd be spaced out and built in different areas/citites.

I also think they’re a little too close together, but I do like everything else about the model; the superblock model has economic, ecological, health and social benefits, so I hope to see it put in place in Africa once we start to develop.

Mixed use development is the future, and is already in place in certain European cities.

I like the Haussmann apartments of Paris due to their elegance and incorporation of vertical mixed use development:

Do you play Cities Skylines or Anno 2205 , I'd recommend that if you are into these genres of simulation video games where players act as the overall planner and leader of a city or town, looking down on it from above, and being responsible for its growth and management strategy.
You can download via stream or get full DLC.

I used to sell these types of games , it's honestly a good platform for city building.

I'll check it out and see how it goes.

Thanks for the recommend.

Reminds me of this post I made recently:

It shouldn't. We should invest more in someday installing high-speed rail and minimizing cars and roads as much as possible. Mostly just highways that connect the cities and towns and go around them rather than through them like in the United States or where I live in the UAE. Somalis, if they have sense, should invest in creating very walkable, car-free or mostly car-free cities using medieval to early modern Somali coastal architecture as well as various sorts of architectural designs from the historical Islamic world. Would be nice for tourism and pleasing to the local people's eyes and quality of life.

Urban sprawl and car focused cities are a disaster and a thing of the past, saxiibs:

We'd be better served building towns and cities like Fez and filling them with trees for a cooling canopy and using all that extra land we'd waste on roads, suburbs and parking lots for creating things like rotational grazing land and food or national park forests.

Those are great videos, mate.

I've seen the second video before but the other two are new to me.

We need mixed use development in Africa instead of the single family homes that dominate Anglo-Saxon Countries.

I don't see the benefit of creating such depressing infrastructure -- even if it was more economical in the short term.

At the incipient stage of economic development, children should be put into modern boarding schools and the elderly should be looked after in modern old folks homes; and the disabled should be looked after just as well...

..The rest of the population would have to accept that they will eventually be provided with modern housing as the Nation develops.

i agree. that applies to countries with manageable populations and a great idea for plenty of poor countries. but not for lunatic somalis with 12 hour plans.

Question to forum

Do you prefer the aesthetics of modern apartment buildings or the traditional, classic styles seen in Paris, Barcelona and Madrid?
