side note i know its not islamic becouse sidamos are chrisitan oromos are mostly christian aswell

Think it was a way to create a link with another country.

Similar to how the Commonwealth cadaans have some connections to the UK on their flags.

The smaller groups or some of their kiss ass politician in the region might have wanted to forge some links to either Somalia or Ethiopia.

Same reason why Somaliland's flag is designed in a way to try and build a closer relationship with the ayrabs up north.

Most of those dictators from smaller countries or states like Oromia fully depended on larger powers for their seats.

So aligning your people's identity with your sponsor's country would be used as a way to bootlick on the grandest scale.

It's not random and there was a connection. Cushites in Ethiopia have always been oppressed by the semites. Siad Barre took advantage of their dissatisfaction in the 70s and provided arms and training for all of their rebel groups. I even heard that he was going to let them join Somalia during the 1977 war. So the connection was political and temporary.

They really looked up to us and why wouldn't they? We were the only cushites that not only had their own country but also struck terror in the hearts of the semites.

Nowadays things are different but this was how things were when all of these flags were devised.
