Where did you get 46 million? 26 million is way too small but 46 million sounds way too high. Why do you think there is such a big difference between both values?

Where did you get 25 million from? The other numbers are fairly reasonable at first glance but 2 million sounds quite higher than the numbers I tend to see. I don't trust Ethiopia's numbers either but 25 million is too far.

In 2007, yeah. Realistically, it's around 8-10 million now. Now...it DOES say on Wikipedia the population of the Somali Region is 25 million, but I certainly do not believe that at all πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Yeah I think a 10-15milly range is realistic, plus knowing how many kids Somalis have.... lol

The population data actually comes from both the Ethiopian government’s official stats:

...and from the Somali regional government.

That said, having a large population isn’t automatically an advantage, especially when it strains resources and land use in a given area. The way it is in the rest of Ethiopia.

What matters more is sustainable growth. As long as economic growth outpaces population growth, Somaliweyn will remain on a positive development trajectory. That means we must generate wealth faster than our population expands, which leads to improved living standards and broader opportunity.

Otherwise, a ballooning population with stagnant or slow economic development will just overburden services, worsen inequality, and deepen poverty.

19 million in Somalia, 25 million in Ethiopia, 2 million in Kenya and 1 million Djibouti

Kenya’s Somali population is actually closer to 5 million. There was a major controversy around how the Kenyan government has historically under-counted Somalis, especially in the NFD (Northern Frontier District), as a strategy to suppress votes and limit investment/resource allocation to the region.

How is it that the population estimate remains almost identical to what was reported in 2009? That alone should raise red flags about the credibility and motive behind the data.

Do you have sources for these numbers

I don't have official sources for 4-5 million but it's based on community guesstimates

The 2 million figure, is just them re-instating figures from 2009.

It wouldn't make sense for Somali population to stay similar to that when the fertility rate is 5-7 children per woman.
