The idea at the time was social Darwinism and these non-white people were exhibited because they believed that we were the missing link between apes and humans and thus, a justification to be colonised. If you can't fathom it, watch the videos I posted below.

What white people? All I see are figures in a tent. They could be Asians, Filipinos as they were paraded in every human zoo in the United States and in Europe. The whole world is condemning these inhumane human zoos except few Somalis who their pride couldn't fathom such a thing ever happened to the mighty Somalis, though historically and contemporarily, Somali politics indicates that we were and still are savages.

During the colonial period, we fought against those who were seeking to free Somalis from colonial rule like the Mad Mullah and sided with our new masters, our ancestors gave their daughters to the colonialists, so they will support one clan against the other.

The savageness continues to this day as we can't get along, sit down with one another and solve our issues. As soon as there are incursions between Puntland and Somaliland, we are called to Addis Ababa, Dubai or Ankara to sit down together and talk to one another and stop fighting. The so called government in Kismayo issued an announcement saying, 'the KDF has restored the peace and stability that we enjoy today and if they leave, we will descent into clan wars or Alshabab (Somalis) might take over'. Mogadishu and the other parts of Somalia are protected by African troops against other Somalis. I think it is valid to argue that the Europeans should exhibit another 'human zoo' of Somalis in 2020 because we haven't evolved yet from savageness and nothing has changed.

It was dehumanizing and I find it deeply embarrassing that some would go out of their way to justify this.

Accept it for what it is. Algerians, black people, Egyptians, South East Asians were all exploited by European colonialists as they were all put in those zoos for the entertainment of whites and non of them are creating threads about how it never happened or how it is acceptable for their ancestors to be treated like that. Self hatred is one hell of a disease.

I'm not claiming in any shape or form that Somalis suffered the way blacks have, as we were never enslaved. But colonisation happened, white people thought they were better and tried to rule over us.
