Somalis come in

So the other day my friends came to my house and saw me kiss my dad and his friends on both their cheeks and said Somalis don't do that. Everyone in my family does it to close family and family friends both male and female I was just wondering does anyone else do this.

From what I'm familiar with, males usually shake hands and women greet each other by kissing both cheeks.

But why kiss your dad? Unless you don't see him too often then it's fine in that case :kanyeshrug:

no, we kiss cheeks all the time its just our way of greeting

Somalis aren't as affectionate as reer xamar, and arabs.

It's still feels weird to me when my arab friends say habibi I love you (in a brotherly way) and a lot of emotional stuff that's completely alien to me.

It's also somewhat shameful in our culture for a man to show any emotions. I've seen videos of Arab men crying, but you'd rarely find a Somali man crying.

Somalis rarely hug, and only kiss when a person is on their death bed or hasn't been seen for many months/years. Saying I love you is very rare to hear except if you're under 5 years old or your dying.

Waryaahe are you cad-cad? it is weird, but props to you sxb. We kiss each other (Family) important days like Eids, Weddings and Tacsi idk other than that it is not norm sxb

Hang on are you a guy or a girl?

In any case it's bizarre to kiss your dad's friends either way.

Actually I've seen guys kiss aunties on their cheeks (aunts who aren't their parents' sibling) but I don't really see the other way around (girls kissing random uncles).

It's normal, expect I do air kisses, non actual skin touching

:trumpsmirk: gotta protect the face

My aunts always kiss my cheek when they see me, ( which is rarely). But I would punch my dads friends in the throat if they ever tried that shit with me

Gadiid

So much depends upon a red wheel barrow.
I say my Salaams and move on, we only hug when it's been a while.

Imagine doing that everyday, lmao.
